Is the .300 Win Mag dead?

After getting some great answers from you experienced guys on the 7mmSTW, I thought I'd start asking about my favorite caliber, the .300 Win mag. I have "several" rifles in a variety of calibers but even after shooting a different rifle/caliber all summer, when it comes time to head for the hills, I always seem to grab my old .300. As to my reloading notes, "IF" I only loaded 20 cartridges at a time, I've put over 1100 pills down it's throat and I bought it used. It's here-to-for way less than MOA groups have begun to hit MOA so I've begun to think of acquiring a new go to rifle and every time I start thinking about what caliber, I come back to the .300 Win Mag. It's worked fine for me on elk, mule deer, whitetails and does a real smash up job on coyotes.

So, I know that it's not a "new super caliber" but what do you guys all have to say about grabbing another .300 Win Mag?

It’s killed a lot of animals, 4 legged and 2. No reason not to trust it. I have a .270win but if/when I get a new rifle I think it’ll be a .300WM

Around 50% of my builds are 300 Win mags. It’s far from a dead caliber! Hard to beat it for a do all 1K yard caliber with good factory ammo available. Lot of first time Custom rifle customers choose it.

It's not dead and I do not think it's going anywhere any time soon.

Big .300 fan. No it’s probably not going to be on the cover of operator tactical magazine, but there’s a reason it’s been around for over 50 years. If I had to pick one caliber and only one for North America it would be hard to pass on the .300

The 300 win mag has great barrel life, ammo and components are among the easiest to find anywhere, and the birth of the 215 Berger was a huge breath of life into a cartridge that has been around forever. A 28" tube will push a 215 t0 3000 fps and with a G1 BC of .696 it is hard to deny it is a viable long range hammer for about everything we hunt and to distances as far as 99% of our skill sets will allow.

Often imitated, never duplicated.

Not by a long shot, in the next war 338lapua might be too expensive. When those units switch back to 300 win mag just wait for the deluge of renewed interest.
I witnessed this madness 2 years ago, after selling everyone and their brother 40sw handguns for years and hearing all these experts bash the 9mm, an article said the naval special warfare was switching to glock 19s, all those 40 fans nearly broke down the door to get their hands on that g19.
The 300 winny is a fine cartridge
Inexpensive brass
Normally pretty easy to load for
Wide range of temp stable hodgdon powders
Incredible breadth of bullet weights
Turns live elk/bears/moose into back straps with the best of them

Here’s a 200 yard group from one of those belted antique 300 Winnys.

It won’t ever die.

I went with a 300WSM because I don't ever plan on shooting bullets over 180gr, but the 300 Winny is a fantastic caliber if judged by effectiveness on large critters at all ranges. Easy to buy factory ammo for, too. It will be around longer than we will.

It's a fine "all purpose" big game cartridge. The Marine Corps recently decided to go "back" to 300 win mag for sniper rifles across the board. I'd say it's anything but dead.

Ohh no. Too good of an all around round.
Good in a bolt gun. Good in an AR-10 platform.

It's also the cheapest of the big boomers to shoot, usually by a good margin, and you can get ammo basically everywhere.

Its easy to be wooed by the new .30's, like th 30 nosler, but ballistics leaves out a critical aspect: availability in remote areas.
