Is my truck not compensating enough?

Jokes aside I have a few questions for the more experienced. I have-
2017 2500 dmax 6.5 foot bed

90s 8ft S&S slide in camper with no AC (baby and toddler)

90s Circle J 2 horse straight. Honestly too short for my current horse. Tail rubs bad.

Can I just use a hitch extender with the camper and have both or is my truck A. Too light or B. Too short and hitch extenders are sketchy at best?

I’ve used both the camper and trailer individually but would like to do more camping/horse related activities instead of keeping them exclusive.

The other expensive option is install a goose neck ball in the truck and buy an old piece o shit living quarters due to cosr

The really expensive option is buy a new truck that’s a 1ton and 8 ft bed. (Not really feasible due to the truck being my wife’s daily. And $$$)

This setup will be used in the tight corners of N. Idaho and around there. Dream setup is flatbed 1ton with a lightweight weekender.

We’ve done exactly this for horse camping and horse hunts and even a few closer to home rodeos. You’ll want a good set of air bags for the 2500.

This is an old photo I had my wife dig up haha. Wish I still had that 5.9 Cummins…

The double truss bumper pull hitch from TorkLift works fantastic.

Thanks to your wife! Airbags are in the plan. I’ll look into the hitch thanks! Trying to have a roadmap to prioritize what to buy/when. That’s an 8 foot bed no?

Yeah that’s an 8 foot bed there. Get measurements on the torklift super truss and see if it’s long enough for your short bed.

Did you have to replace the factory hitch too? Everything on their website looks like it requires their hitch bolted to the frame.

Edit: nvm I found it. Kept pulling up the ford options only.

Personally I don’t like truck bed campers at all, so I’m a little bias.
Is it an option to sell your camper at all and buy a short bed campers?

You will have a lot of weight canter leaving over your rear axle and have a ton of weight on your rear axle.

I’d at least plan on doing the double truss hitch.
And check the weight ratings of all that. I’m not sure how much weight those trusses are rated for.
And 90s steel horse trailers are heavy for the length.

Selling both is an option I just really like the camper for hunting season without the family. Perfect for my dad and I in the early snow season.
