Is it possible to exchange Idaho NR Elk Tag with Father?

I got lucky this year and was able to draw a Beaverhead A tag along with my hunting partner (friend). My issue is my father is getting up there in age and has never archery hunted in the West (Wisconsin Residents). I would love to give him my tag if possible, even if it means I have to buy him a tag in a different unit to exchange, never make it there, and use it as expensive bullion.

Has anyone successfully exchanged idaho NR OTC tags? I spoke with IDFG this morning and they said a direct transfer is not possible, only father to son. However, I read a different thread on this site that was talking about exchanging tags. I am not too concerned with having to pay a fee, I am just wondering if anyone has actually successfully gone through the process. Thanks!

Why not buy him a license and put him into the 2nd draw for the same tag? Then if he doesn’t draw wait for a return tag sale and buy one, if you really want him to hunt this year there will be opportunities to grab him a tag still

If he didn’t put in for the first draw, he can’t put in for the 2nd.

I think you answered your own question per IDFG, I’d go off of what IDFG says vs all the random guys on a forum who heard from their cousin who had an uncle that had a friend that did it in 1965.

Hey, he saw it on the Internet so it must be true

Sure he can, buy a license and apply, there is absolutely nothing preventing anyone from applying in 2nd draw unless they drew and didn’t purchase

You’re right. That’s what I was thinking of. Idk how it works, apparently. I’m a resident lol.
It would be kinda silly for him to apply at this point, though, but there’s always controlled hunts, I suppose.

I know it used to be possible because I've done it with resident limited quota elk tags. Might be different for non-residents. Or it could have been a rule that recently changed.

The second draw period is open now so have him buy a license and put in for it.

There may be some tags available after the second draw that could be purchased but it will be a crapshoot on which zones will be available if any at all. You can exchange a tag for a different zone but only if a tag is available in the other zone and you do it before season starts.

If nothing else get him a license and a bear and wolf tag and have him come along for an adventure.
