How was your hunt with Ironbound? I have a moose and a caribou tag in September 2026. Any reccomendations?
I hunted with them a few years ago and absolutely loved it. It was the best hunt of my life. My brother and I both killed nice bulls. My brothers was over 40 mine was in the low 30s. I also killed a 6 foot 300 pound black bear and if I could have afforded a Caribou tag, I would have had a chance at one of the biggest the guide had ever seen up there so he says.
If I could recommend anything to help make your hunt go better be in good walking shape and make sure that you have your boot situation figured out. I took Alpha Burley pro boots with me and gifted them to the camp because they almost ruined my feet and almost ruined my hunt. I trained for months with those boots at home and could never quite get them to work with my feet. I kept getting bad blisters.. I think you could be fine with a tall mountain boots and gators.
I wish we would have taken a small tripod and spotting scope with us. When I talk to them they told me it was unnecessary but after being there for just a few hours, I really wish I would have taken the tripod and spotter. Another thing I wish I would’ve taken would have been a small inflatable sleeping pad because the foam on the bed in the cabin was pretty thin and pretty worn down, but it did not affect my hunt.
I also wish I would’ve thrown in a pack of playing cards because we were stuck in a cabin with weather for two days straight and we basically stare at the walls the whole time. The last thing I wish I would’ve done would have been to throw a gallon Ziploc bag full of protein bars, candy and jerky in my pack because the food situation while perfectly fine was just a little lackluster and bland after being there a week. We did eat a lot of pork and beans and bologna, but that didn’t really affect me. My brother and I both lost weight while we were in camp, but we were hiking a lot and burning a lot of calories..
