As part of a startup and the things that go along with it I have over 19K RSU shares in a company that should go public in the next year.

Nobody in my inner circle has gone through something like this. I understand the mechanics of it and my waiting period and everything but I have no idea what to do from a tax perspective to try and maximize it.

I am 100% going to be talking to tax professionals and financial people to better understand the situation but I like to do some of my own research to understand the topic before I do.

Anybody been through an IPO with RSU's? Are there any strategies to help keep as much value as I can?

Curious to hear what others have done in similar situations.

1) Dont count your chickens before they hatch

2) its recordable income, not much you can do except pay the appropiate taxes. Plan on 40% going to taxes

3) talk to a few tax folks before paying and committing

4) take a piece and enjoy yourself. Put the majority to paying yourself forward- pay off a house, kid 529s, retirement, etc
