Iowa Public Cuddeback link cameras

Looking through the refs and can’t decide if the Cuddeback Link cameras are legal during the season. Technically not a cell camera, and still have to go into the field to check. Anyone have experience with this on Iowa public?

I'm not sure how these cameras work but I do know that there will be new rules implemented for the 2027 season that will make all trail cameras illegal on state game management land.

I read that. I will have to look into the details of the places that I hunt. Some state ground that is open for hunting is not always designated as game management land.

trail cameras capable of sending images or video while actively hunting, to communicate the loca-
tion or direction of game or furbearing animals, or to coordinate the movement of other hunters."

The Cuddeback Link cameras appear to meet the definition of "one-way mobile radio transmitter", as they are designed to send the pictures via WIFI to the "BASE" unit, which is then capable of sending pictures from ALL the satellite cameras out over CELLULAR. (WIFI is radio waves). I believe if you call them they will tell you that they are currently NOT LEGAL for use during hunting season on any PUBLIC or PRIVATE lands. Give them a call and update when you get their answer. Good luck.

Lotsa people just want to stop Johnny from having any kind of advantage. It’s a shame they feel that by stopping folks from using cameras, it gives them an advantage. They still suck as a hunter and just whine too much.

I support it simply because it gets frustrating walking through the woods and seeing a camera on a tree every 10 feet. I don't like my picture being out there if possible. Also, it's now mandatory to scope the surrounding 40 yards before taking a dump in the woods.

Dump right in front of the camera.

We get a 3-5 day quota hunt down here and I can only guarantee getting 1 permit. Gonna use cams or go fishing.

I still think if you ban cameras you ban everything that has a battery - GPS cause Bob can’t find his stand in the dark, onX cause Larry can’t use a paper map to mark where the sign is, stop texting between hunters, or Google Maps to drop a pin for someone to hunt or fish at, etc.

Yah, the cell cam is bad but the rest isn’t. Only a moron can separate the technology that drives all these things.

I live in a state that does not allow cameras left up over night on public lands. I still see cameras on public lands and it’s not hard to figure out that they are not being removed at night.
Whether you believe in the law or not is it unethical to be breaking that law?
Is it poaching if the camera aids in the harvesting of an animal?

For the record I do use some cameras every year on some private ground I hunt on during the rut in a different state.
I put the cameras out on mock scrapes at the beginning of September and then pull SD cards at the end of October.
