inReach Mini 3

Pretty steep discount, in comparison to the usual sales. You may be correct. Something new may be coming.

My initial thoughts are they might be working on discontinuing them. They have the messenger ones now and may want to reduce the product line up. I did notice this week they have a new inreach gps that looked pretty nice. Longer battery life than the alpha 200i I am using and provides a secondary map if I were to break my phone.

Did you see the link I provided? It says “mini3” and out of stock. Curious if that just went up early by accident.

I did see it and you’re likely right. Someone probably messed up and put it up early and then took it down. I have noticed when they come out with new products the old ones tend to come on sale at a better price than most other sales. Time will tell. I just don’t understand the difference between the inreach minis and the messengers and was wondering if they would eliminate one for the other.

I used my iPhone’s satellite option a few weeks ago. It worked fine for the most part. I did have to restart my phone a couple of times when a message would take too long to send. Having to start pointed at a satellite was a bit of a pain too. I might scoop up an inReach just to have something as backup. I the iPhone works, but it still has plenty of bugs to get out imo.

I have a Pixel 9. Satellite messaging mostly works but the process of connecting to a satellite takes about 2-5 minutes and drains ~3% of my battery. I use it some on day hunts but it certainly will not replace my Inreach.

I have had an inreach mini 2 for a year now and use the iPhone satellite messaging now that it’s available. I don’t mind the iPhone satellite but it’s not quite as reliable as the garmin messaging and it definitely won’t replace my garmin for that reason. I’ve also had to turn my phone on and off to get messages to send and it does chew through some battery life on my phone. I highly suggest anyone on the fence buy an inreach if not just for the SOS capability. Buy the plan that suits your needs also. Mine stays attached to a strap on the inside pocket of my pack.

The satellite feature on cell phones IMO isn’t there yet, enough to rely on. It’ll be there at some point…..I just upgraded my OG mini to a mini 2. Figures there’s a 3 coming out
