I'm in the middle of it with them as well. Bought a mini to replace a delorme. Set up the mini. Suspended my plans until hunting season. Life goes on. Get on to check and I've been billed every month in the meantime even though my units are suspended. Now I'm trying to chase them down to get a refund.

That's rough. I picked up the 66i the other day 2 days before heading out. Had a similar problem with account activation but luckily got it resolved the next day on the phone . Only took 2.5 hours. The activation seemed harder than it should have been but that said its a nice unit. Having the ability to run onX chips that you already have is great but being able to talk to the wife was awesome. Weather came in pretty bad and had to drop elevation while a buddy was on his way to camp, pin on the map, being able to let him know I moved was awesome. Kept the wife happy, kept me in touch and worked great. Battery was pretty good, topped it off after day one. Ran next 2 days without recharge. Could probably lasted a little more but the hunt was over.

Well guys, I'm tapping out. It's 6:30 PM my time, been fiddling with this since I left the UPS store at 8:45 this morning. Still not operational!!!!!!! I should'a went with my gut and just shipped it back this morning.

After all this time, and over 1.5 hours on the phone with them (actually about 45 minutes, the rest was on hold), I can only get test messages to my email, not the two phones I set up on the account (with the help of CS so I know they were put in right). I've given it two hours to get the messages to my phone. Pretty sure a guy could die by then?

Nearly 7 hours of wasted time and all I have to show is $31 stop payment charge from my bank as I'm attempting to get my money back this way rather than fight with Garmin over it (see warnings from other members above on their billing department)

so for those of you who said be patient, try a little harder---did I meet the criteria?

Conclusion: Garmin set-up sucks! (but I already knew that this morning)

I can't comment on the operation of the mini because I never got to use it!

It would appear this is more of an isolated experience.
Not according to S&S Archery. He works in IT and said it took him 2 hours the other day to help a customer, in person, to get his set up.

I am sure they sell quite few at S&S and probably like me, it takes 15-20 minutes the vast majority of the time. However this thread was interesting to follow. If it was a bad product would S&S still sell it?

You can also get help via chat instead of waiting on hold for an hour. I had some issues getting mine set up (initially) but it was due to a large Garmin problem that they got resolved later that day. They were really responsive on chat and knew exactly what the problem was. I'm fine with some issues getting it all squared away, just like any new device/equipment, I expect some minor setup issues until I learn how to use it correctly for my use and can get it all updated/synced (if it's electronic). I wouldn't give up on it the first day, you might be really impressed once the issue gets solved. If people dumped electronic products/companies due to some IT issues, we wouldn't have any electronics today.

You’re right but I needed the mini for the trip I’m leaving on tomorrow. After that, I can get by till next season without it. I might try again next year, but for now, it’s over.

Completely understand. I jumped on a new 66i when they first hit the market and was really excited to run it through its paces but ended up getting injured so the thing hasn't been outside except for the initial set up. I'm hoping it works great when I am able to use it and will make sure to post a review after I do.

Let us know how it goes. Sorry about the injury

did you put the earthmate app on your phone? if so, try sending a msg to an email/number from that.

Yes I did. But I didn’t try sending from the app as instructions clearly said to send the test message from the mini.

Thanks for chiming in, but too late now to try anything else. It’s boxed up ready to return. Hoping to see my credit in my account when I get back next week.

I hear ya..you're pressed for time. you can also check your inreach account online to see if the emails were infact input correctly by garmin if I understood correctly that they did it for you. . if they aren't...well you could unbox it and have a sweet communication device for the trip.

this is assuming that they put them into the 3(free) preset msgs or something.

Thanks for the tips bro. The emails were actually working and receiving the test message but the phones weren’t. I wish I’d have had more time. Was looking forward to the mini.

My mini worked great last mo in Alaska. Tracked us so the wife had peace if mind and worked great the whole time. The wife loved it seeing where we were hunting. My Garmin watch linked to mine too. Robbing sounds like you need the full size and not the mini. Mine activated in less than a hour and linked to my phone and watch

If there’s a next time, I might go that route.
