I think both these shots were stupid.

My Opinion:
  • He never gave either buck time to give him a full broadside shot.
  • The shot from the 22 CM was basically in the ass. A good hunter would have taken their time.

I'm a libertarian at heart, but I struggle with what social media s*** like this has turned "hunting" into in the last 5+ years. Part of me thinks we'd all be better off if all hunting content was just banned on social media considering there's no way to put an end to this otherwise -- our youngest Americans literally do not know how to use discretion when they use social media, and the #1 answer among America's youth to "what do you want to be when you grow up?" is, surprise surprise, a social media influencer.

Gonna be honest, I stopped watching all of them about 3 years ago when it dawned on me they were literally selling our sport off to the highest bidder for clicks and likes.

MuleyFreak is one of the worst of them in my opinion.

And be careful, they get pissed for disparaging their name. This thread might get you sued for defamation

That dude is a poacher. F*** Him

and yeah the influencer crowd has been devastating to the quality of outdoor recreation overall. The primary beneficiaries are the gear companies and the prostitutes like the one you posted.

It is well known here that Muley Freak gives real hunting and hunters a bad name. Reposting his garbage all over the internet only gives him more views.

Is that that the one that’s been caught for poaching twice or trespassing? If it is I can’t believe people still buy his product, course from what I’ve seen he is great at persuading his followers how innocent he is. And settling out of court to me is a full guilty plea without the full reprevautions

At Least thrice trespassing. Two or more times on the same property in UT, then recently the ID deal. It'd be one thing if a guy seemed decent and was on the wrong side of the law, but theres a ton of content and reactions to his misgivings proving that he's a Dbag.

Ya that 22CM shot was poor. I bet cutting him in the field was nasty. The comments about 22CM not being enough are funny. Clearly the deer still died even with poor placement.

If I remember correctly.
1. Shot a turkey in the wrong unit in Utah.
2. Convicted of trespassing once in Utah.
3. Convicted of trespassing once in Idaho.

But why do people support them still? Well according to a thread about a sponsorship...and then a podcast
1. Who cares?
2. You are just participating in "cancel culture" if you do boycott them and/or their sponsors.

Not really cancel culture if o choose not to buy their product. Be like saying I’m into cancel culture cause I only buy one brand of camo. Guess I better go buy one piece from each company so I’m not into cancel culture. And honestly boycotting them because they are a hinderance to the sport and culture is different than cancelling Coke because something they did hurt my feelings. Cancel culture usually has everything to do with hurt feelings rather than true justification

Maybe we can just call it cancel cult....

The angle of the whitetail shot could be questionable. Hard to know exactly without seeing it in person. The first shot. How is that angle unethical??? Unless my eyes are wrong, fairly broadside, slightly quartering. I’m not here to defend Muley Freak. @Unckebob, do you only approve of perfectly broadside shots?

No. I just thought he jumped the gun on his shot rather than wait for a better angle. I would call it a C level decision.

The 2nd shot was what really got my attention.

It’s clear to me that the buck was on the move. It did not look like he was gonna stay still for long. There was nothing unethical about the first shot. He obviously made a perfect shot and dropped it. Angle was fine. I don’t think there was any option of waiting for a better angle. That angle was plenty good.

The whitetail shot was iffy, but most tipped bullets handle steep quartering pretty well.
