Found a Tikka Master Sporter in .22-250 1:14” that I’m going to rebarrel, first thought was to use a takeoff 1:8 .22-250, but no one had those. With stainless tikkas going for $700 after rebate and transfer…. and finding a cheap threaded .308 barrel, now I’m not sure if the Master Sporter should live on as a .22-250 or .308 win.

The non Master Sporter will go into a Bravo, and could swap to a Rokstok if it needed to.

The .22-250 in MS would be minuscule recoil and ridiculously fun to shoot prairie dogs with, but heavier if I ever want to take to ID or MTnfor big game. The .308 in MS would tame the .308 and never wear out, but might not get picked up as much.

You have all the walnut you need now.
Shouldn’t have let me play w the Master Sporter.

The KRG is empty now bc the Rokstok was delivered.

Haha. That’ll be a fantastic rifle in 22CM… just saying.

1-8 Factory 22-250 punched to 22CM is the fun button for sure.

It’s not stainless, but J&A has a factory compact .223 barrel twisted 1-8 available. Could punch that to 22CM too

Nice. Couple things. Looks like I can flip the butt stock, instead of trying to raise it.

Any suggestions for extra mags?

We talking 10% more fun, or f*ck yeah kinda more fun than .22-250?

Midwest Gun Works has (2) 22-250 mags in stock (S5840377). I didn’t know Tikka has different SKUs for 22-250 and 308 mags for the 595 until I looked just now. I only have the 308 mags so not sure what the difference is.

I haven’t tried the 595 mags Waters has, but his T3x mags have been working well for me. At least he seems to still manufacturing 595 mags

If you got components for 22-250 already, might be good to roll that way. 90% of a 22CM is still a whole lot of fun

Is it possible to use a takeoff t3x 223 8 twist barrel as the starting point and have the smith cut/thread it into 22/250 for you? Those barrels are relatively easy to find.

You Sir are an enabler.

Serious question. What am I gaining going to the .22 CM?

I see SRP brass (currently a big plus)
?100 fps ?
Easier to load?

I think I can still shoot 88s w the 1:8” 22-250.

Cons
$300-400 that could be spent on ammo, or that next RS scope, or Rokstok (chamber and dies)
Maybe some barrel life, but I haven’t burned anything out yet
Shooting a geriatric round.

I’m just picking. You’ll be about 100fps higher MV given same/same, less case/no case stretching and trimming, and more available brass. But, if you already have all the 22-250 brass, it don’t matter.
