This type of info is available on the Wy G&F site for Wy units. Not exactly by measured points but by class of deer.

This is from Dennis Austin's book. I believe Mr. Denning has reviewed it.
A buck is classified as mature at 3.5 and older. In Utah at least.
No way to tell scores but not mature bucks 4x4 or greater are a small part of harvest and I assume few of those are 160+.

Thanks for sharing! How many hunters in those years? Or does it not say?

You have too much faith in our fellow hunters. Chances are likely that only 100-150 bucks will be killed out of those 1,000 tags issued. Of those killed probably less than 5% are over 160". That means 5-7.5 over 160 out of the 100-150.

So 7.5/1000= 0.0075% that's under 1%.
It is common for a rifle hunt to have around 30% success rate in many units.

“Western WY. Places in CO. ID no problem.”

The OP asked general unit. What the heck is a “general unit”?

I don’t know any units in my part of CO that aren’t taking a couple years to draw and some late seasons are taking a decade plus.

I'm not sure but significantly more than now.
Back then it was either statewide on the general units or divided into 5 regions. So I doubt that there was much available in terms of unit specific data.

Not limited entry, not limited quota and not private land. Yeah Colorado's a little different. I would be referring to units in Colorado that take 0 to 2 points.

Eh I disagree but regardless I'll still say under 1% are 160+ on your 1,000 tags issued
Well, that's fine but just check the stats.
Many units are much much higher than 30% success on a rifle hunt.

That's the disconnect I'm used to Colorado. However the majority is shooting the first legal animal they see

We hunted CO. I shot a 160 4x4 w eye guards.

Buddy missed a 130 3x3.
Other buddy passed a big 2x2 cause his old lady would make fun of him.

For someone to say 30% harvest means a lot of 160+ bucks = dream land. WY has a couple units and most are 2x3s.
