Sounds like you don’t know exactly how you’ll use it. That’s fine. It’s easier to make a big pack smaller than a small pack bigger.
4500-5000 cubic inches gives you enough capacity for backpack hunts if that’s your jam. I have a MR Beartooth 80. I use it for everything. Prior to that I had a Metcalf. I loved the simplicity of the Metcalf but it was a shade too small for my needs. I think they r made it a little bigger now.
Don’t get too hung up on the perfect choice. I’d buy a used pack. Don’t get a Badlands. I can tell you that from experience. If you buy a good quality used pack you can always resell it down the road when you decide to upgrade.
