If you had $1500 to spend on a new rifle, what would it be?

I bought the aforementioned T3x lite in 6.5 PRC from Eurooptic (net at that time was $525 after rebate). Topped with trining credo bc 2.5-15x44 for ~$900 from Eurooptic. Mounted on DMZ one piece ring/bases. Total right around $1500.

I don’t yet have a suppressor. But that’s the main drawback to this model but I figure I can get barrel cut and threaded and come out similar to a new threaded T3x down the road. Or decide to customize it at that point with aftermarket barrel etc.

If by mountain rifle you mean really light, I’d consider the howa super light or their carbon option. Kimber mountain ascent peak also looks cool.

I would favor 6.5 CM if going ultralight over PRC for recoil reasons.

Out of the box the Savage is hard to beat, although I really like the set up Seekin has for sale but I don't own one. As stated above the Browning speed is really nice as I pick one up on this site in the 7 prc and it shoots really good.

Circling back here after doing some research….seekins ph3 or tikka in a rokstok or some sort of other aftermarket stock?
Whichever one you like best. They’re all good options. I like the XLR element for a chassis, but that’ll push outside of your budget. I also generally think scope failures have as much to do with the quality of the mounts and how it’s mounted as much as the scope durability too.

Just for poops and smiles, go handle a Savage Axis 2(not Axis II). They went to a more ergonomic stock on the new gen and Savages have a reputation for shooting well and they dont cost alot. You may like it, you may not. Worth a few minutes at the LGS

I agree with others on 6.5 Creed. It will do absolutely anything you need at your distances, LOTS of cheap up to "high end" ammo options and availability, mild recoil, the bolt face is common to many other cartridges if you ever want to change caliber(7-08, 308, 243, 6 Creed, 22 Creed, etc, etc, etc.)

I would not get in a hurry, save another $1000-$1300 and build one to your specifications.
Something like the following
- Zermatt Orgin $1000 (allows you to swap bolt faces)
- Preferred Barrel Blank $700 (lapping etc). Just an example but there is many barrels out there. This is just from my previous order. It can definitely be cheper for a pre-fit
- Triggertech Special $225
- Hawkins Bottom Metal $165 for the blem
- Something like a peak 44 blacktooth stock $780

Granted you can go cheaper with the stock, trigger, etc but something like a Zermatt Orgin will allow you to just change the bolt face by a simple pin and you can go from a standard cartridge to a magnum and vise versa without ever buying a new rifle. You just need the boldt face and another prefit barrel, a barrel vise, torque wrench, and a action wrench. So say you wanted to get into western/long range hunting, you could have something like a 6mm CM/ 6.5 CM etc barrel and bolt face for a trainer gun and then have a 6.5 PRC/7mm SAUM etc for hunting. A few week before the hunt, swap the barrels, swap the bolt face, zero your rifle, validate at distance, go hunt. Because I would assume as you get better at shooting, you will eventually extend your capabilities with range.
