Having struck out on our elk tags AGAIN ! My son and I turned our attention to whitetails. With the woods being full of hunters we walked a gated log road a few miles back to get away from the crowds and started hunting some ridges. I was lucky enough to take this decent buck.

We cut him up and had him back at the truck by early afternoon. The rest of the weekend was spent trying to fill my sons tag. He wanted a buck also so passed on several does, and we went home with only 1 deer and several grouse.

The next weekend had us out again. This would be the last weekend we could hunt so my son decided he was not passing up anything this time. The weather took a turn and it was frigid, with some snow.

The truck thermometer read 13 degrees. Was wondering how my son would handle the cold but he never complained a bit.

We were hunting the same area i shot my buck and the deer were moving in this cold weather. He spotted a doe about 50 yards out took a knee and threaded a shot thru some brush killing her instantly.

With the temperature falling we started a fire to warm up as we cut her up for the pack out.

Cooking some fresh tenderloins for lunch.

Congratulations no better way to spend quality time with family. Be a trip your son won't forget anytime soon either

Thanks guys, now if we could just get it together for elk! Been at it for a few years. I did harvest one cow, but have yet to down a bull. Some day....

Congratulations on some quality times.

One of my favorite hunts is our annual November Idaho whitetail hunt with the family.
