I am shocked and extremely happy that after so many years of applying for this hunt... they drew my name!! :D I had honestly grown accustomed to receiving that refund check year after year. But that refund check didn't come this year, instead there was a bighorn tag in that envelope!! I am so looking forward to this, my first sheep hunt. Now to get prepared...

Short of some of the Alberta and Montana tags, the unit 11 (Hell's Canyon) sheep tag is one of the best Rocky tags on the planet. Hunt it on your own or with your friends if you want, but this is not a tag to squander. Truly a "once in the Lifetime" tags. Congratulations!!!!!!

Best advice I can give a first time sheep hunter with a tag like this is to have sheep hunting extraordinary friends or hire a good outfitter. Not trying to burst your bubble, but most diehard sheep hunters would give up one of the "boys" for this tag.

Have an awesome hunt and post some pictures.

Thank you for the good wishes and advice. I plan to make the most of this hunt and will go after it with all I have. I'm already putting my "team" together for this adventure. Hoping to see rams like those I've only seen pictures of... and have some sheep ribs on the grill in my camp :)

If you have the ability to float the river. .that's a huge plus. ..that's how Barker kills most of the monsters in that unit. If you go guided he is the unit 11 king for sure. . Big country from what i have heard and it will take some serious scouting to find the monster that the area can produce..congrats on the #1 sheep tag in Idaho!

I'm back to report we had a successful hunt in Idaho unit 11! Barker is the man! It was an awesome hunting adventure in very rough terrain, at least for this old guy. The plan we had for this ram worked perfectly. We did a rough score, it was right around 182 gross. Question, would anyone have any tips on how to prevent excess shrinking for the next 60 days, as I am hopeful to make B&C.

What a ram! I'd love to see a pic from the back if you get a chance.

Did you hunt with Barker then?

Thank you!

Yes, I went with Barker. The person who commented about unit 11 being big country, wow it is BIG country. I am so glad I didn't attempt a do it yourself, I would have never been able to put in enough time and effort to be successful. Jon Barker has decades in there. It made sense to go guided for my only chance with this tag. I can't say enough about Barker and his guys, very professional. It couldn't have been a better experience for my first ever guided hunt.

I didn't think to get photos of the ram from the back. I do have this one, but it's not too good. Both bases are about 15 3/4.
