I can't thank my good buddy Brett enough for inviting me on this trip and my fiance and family for taking care of our kids and home while I was away. It had been in the works for months, and I almost ended up not going. My oldest brother insisted that I go if it was possible. He knew how passionate I am about hunting and how much I wanted to go on this trip. A 7 day fly-in bear hunt, 50 miles into the largest wilderness in the lower 48. With a family, new house, unfinished projects, and many other reasons to not go, my brother pushed me to do what I love and am passionate about. He reminded me that life goes by so fast and you need to do the things in life that you want to, while you still can, because one day you may not be able. So I said told my buddy Brett, "Lock my spot on the plane in. I'm going." A few weeks after committing to this trip, the message my brother was conveying to me became oh so real.. My brother had been fighting Leukemia for over 9 years. Twice in that time frame beating it and going into remission. This third time it came back was different. The doctors were trying everything they could, but no matter what they tried, the cancer stayed present. They told us there was nothing they could do at this point except keep him as comfortable as long as they could while he enjoyed the last bit of time he had with his family. We all heard what the doctors were telling us, but it almost didn't seem real. He was so strong, if you didn't know it, you probably wouldnt have know he was fighting a losing battle against cancer because he was always such a light and so positive while facing something so evil. On March 6th, his fight came to an end, and the Lord welcomed him into heaven. 2 months later, in the middle of the frank church wilderness, I felt like my brother was there with me. Taking this bear was one of the most special and emotional things I've done in the woods, and I have harvested my fair share of animals. This hunt meant the world to me, and I feel blessed to be able to chase critters in such wild, beautiful country, and for my brother to be there watching over me. I love you big bro, this one was for you1000004470.jpg1000004262.webp
