Idaho NR general tag going to draw?

I’ll consider the ones who didn’t open a web page for free l, but can’t wait to pay $200 for a lotto play financially illiterate

Were those same people buying tickets to all the governor type tags?? I bet not

Talk about bassakwards

Call them whatever you want but let’s break it down for the two I know the best.

Person A. Works a job making 80K a year plus commission. I have no idea what his commission is but let’s just use base salary. He makes a little over 305 a day. He gets two weeks paid vacation a year and uses one for a trip with his family. He can A) take a day off unpaid and lose 105. B) take a day off paid and hunt for 1 less day a year C) risk losing out on a sale to sit on a screen/miss out on getting a tag because he is trying to get a sale.
Or he can spend 200 bucks at a chance.

Person B. Works a job that he can’t have a phone or computer on him. Makes about 200 bucks a day and doesn’t get PTO. It’s a wash taking a day off or applying. At least with applying he can take an extra day off to go hunting in the fall. He works a production job so taking time off puts the company behind so he can’t take unlimited days off.

Financially illiterate or do some people realize that the most valuable resource they have is their time?

It’s theory I have. Nothing more. Nothing less. If Idaho general season applications see a net decrease over the next 3 years, I will eat my crow.

If they weren’t trying on the prior system at all, it’s simply because they didn’t want to. I don’t go for the absolute no access to a phone in THIS DAY. Does it exist? Ofcourse. However it’s an extremely small sector of society that it doesn’t even measure.

Many ways they could’ve played without missing work, for less than $200.

Hell a kid, wife, friend, babysitter wanting to make $50, ANYONE could’ve played for them. This is a baloney excuse at best but, Okay. You win, I’ll never hunt Idaho again now whereas before I hunted 1 time in 5 years.

I never said you won’t or anyone won’t draw again. I said odds are going to decrease and it won’t fix the problems that people think it will.

Once the same people that complained enough to get this change realize that they still aren’t drawing tags, queue the “we need a points system” complaints.

That’s all I said. Don’t put words in my mouth.

I have exactly no solid info to base this on but my bet is a non res will have a maximum of 25%-30% chance of getting a tag....which is terrible odds.

Versus before, If you really wanted to hunt elk and expended the effort....you got a tag.

Not true, I know several people who drove over and didn’t get elk tags.

I'm disappointed to see a 5 choice system.

If people approach similarly to nevada where they apply for the best unit, then a couple tags they'll be happy with, and save the last choice for a tag they really don't want but is better than no tag in thier pocket.

The above really does nothing to improve the Idaho draw experience.

Making people commit to trying to draw the best tag- a good tag- or just a tag is what could have made a difference, as then applicants are only competing against those who want the same tag and not those who want to get lucky but are willing to settle for something less.

Every applicant’s first choice is considered before moving to 2nd choice.
At least this is how there regular draw tags are done.
Most likely every tag will get drawn on 1st choice

Most likely choices 2-5 will be an entire waste of time for all but the crappest units.

I'll go back and read the offical announcement but 5 is an odd choice to settle on if that in fact that is the procedure since it's currently only 2 choices.

Edited-
Just reread the announcement and they didn't clarify how the draw procedure would work. I guess 5 choices helps them sell all the tags even the lest desirable ones.

I imagine year 1 there will be 2-4 zones that make up 95% of first choice applications, there will be a lot of 2nd-5th choices drawn the first couple years. As time goes by and people learn areas and or get tired of not drawing I imagine that all tags will begin to go as higher and higher choices until eventually it is nearly all 1st choice
