Idaho NR general tag going to draw?

I give it 10 years or less before people realize that this didn't fix the "problem" and they start calling for a point system to implemented.

Dont apply for Diamond Creek. I know about 5 more people that will be applying for it due to this change.

How many less can go in person or have friends bulk buy for them now? ALL of them

For the ones who WERE NOT in that group, their odds are better.

Perfect system no, better than the one before? Yes unless you went out there or had connections to do the work for you.

This was before I ever knew what Rokslide was. Searched otc states and brought this forum up and I joined . Now it’s my main source of social media entertainment.

People have a way of justifying stuff to make them selves feel ok

And what made you interested in learning how to hunt and apply in western states? A dream, MeatEater, YouTube?

The hunting part I have been doing along time 91 was my first year with a gun but have been going since mid 80’s .By the time I went elk hunting I had already killed a lot of stuff.

Sitting in the shop one day talking about elk hunting with a buddy. His father in law had went a few times to Wyoming so I said I will search some stuff on the internet. So I searched elk hunting out west and it brought me to Rokslide . Found Idaho checked all the boxes went balls deep buying gear we went it was 2015. Brother moved out there in 18 went two more times with him 2020 last year out there . Got my new dog got into field trials and elk hunting has lost its luster haven’t been since gave him most my gear so he can put it to use. Dogs and birds were always my first love since being old enough to sit in the field with grandpa and my dad.

Will I ever go elk hunting again maybe if I draw a tag here or my brother talks me into coming out there again but is it worth missing a week hunting ducks with my dog who is here for a short time I don’t know that it is.

So with all that said this is social media as social media is if it makes you feel better thinking it’s not go for it.

I still hold that there will be people that chose to not play in the game that Idaho was that now will, thus lowering the odds.

I know of five people that willingly did not apply in Idaho because they didnt want to or couldnt take the time to try and get a spot. All five of those said they would start hunting Idaho if it goes to a draw. I am also not counting myself. Plan to go bear hunting with my brothers next year. I have to buy a license and I would not have spent the time in the waiting room, but you bet your ass my name will be in the hat for the best hunts.

All this did was remove a barrier to entry. Right or wrong, I bet odds decrease. Time will tell.

Four of the five live within a half hour of the Idaho border.

the current system always worked out for me until the first time I didn’t get tags. Not sad about a draw at all after that happening once.

$200 is a barrier to entry, more so than there was prior.

You “know” some who say they’ll apply now, there’s also many who WONT not that you don’t know.

If people didn’t just opened up a web page before, (super easy AND free), well then idk what interest them so much about paying $200 for a loto ticket

Time will tell but every time states raise their prices, people scream about how it’s pricing people out. Yet, how many western states have seen a decrease in applicants? 200 bucks hasn’t been a deterrent so far.

People spend more than that applying in Utah and Nevada and their odds are far far far worse than Idaho.

Why don’t people log in? Well, some people make more money in a day than 200 bucks. So paying 200 bucks and taking 10 minutes to apply is far less costly than waiting all day. Time is money.

One of the kids I know doesn’t have a job that he can wait all day but he can take 10 minutes one of the days after work.

People didn’t have to log in, all they had to do was open the web page on their phone and then stick it back in their pocket. When the phone would go to sleep mode it WOULDNT even kick them out

So, to think people weren’t doing that because they were too busy is just false in the sense of being a measurable amount to make a difference. Worst case they got a number and didn’t open the plain back up in time to buy the tag before their 10 minutes was up to do so.

Idaho would sell what? 12500 tags?

I’ve gone into the waiting room as number 40k + before!! Mostly made up of the same person on a ton of browsers which can’t happen now

I doubt 40k+ people apply but time will tell, if I’m right that means my odds to being picked through the lottery earlier than number 40k

I don’t have to think, I know people that didn’t do just that.

Those people that didn’t look at their phone when it came their turn, didn’t get a tag, which left a tag for the next person that did. Now that person is in the draw actually trying for a tag. That’s one more person you are competing against that you weren’t before.

I have beat this horse for years. Now we get to see if my theory is correct.

Not fully true, this is simple

Who “you know” isn’t the full society I hate to tell you

Also, no it didn’t always just go to the next guy because when you had waiting room number 20k one was way more inclined to close the browser like me after one year of waiting hours to see everything sold.

In theory yea it went to the next guy, but the prior system allowing people to open 10,15,20 browsers ruined it for many people.

I wish it was the old system modified to make you log in first to eliminate that crap but, I’ll take this one. I bet my odds are better than getting a tag I want ONCE since the system was created

In 2023 238,000 people applied for Colorado elk
In a state with significant otc

But yeah only 20k will apply for Idaho I’m sure

People or non residents?

There’s many applying to build point also that are not planning to hunt

How many non residents hunted?

Yes I know that the people I know isn’t the full society. Do you know five or more people that won’t apply now? Because I know five that will. Unless it deters more people than it encourages, odds are going down.

I don’t bother myself asking what people plan to do. But I know many who don’t have money to waste on chances.

I know about 5 people that elk hunt

It cost me $76 to apply for Elk in UT, less than $100 in AZ, and I get better odds every year I apply.
There is zero chance I'm paying $200 for a GEN tag raffle ticket.
