Looking at maps it looks like there are only populations up towards the panhandle and border of Yellowstone.

Just wondering if there are ever rouge bears found throughout the state or if there is virtually 0 chance of coming across one? Personally I think it would be cool to glass one, would hate to run into one ;)

My wife hates the idea of me going on a solo hunt, but the areas I have looked at don't seem to carry a grizzly population, and I camp in black bear country pretty often.

Outside of unit 1 and a few of the units bordering Yellowstone. It's VERY rare to see a Grizzly. However, Moose kill more people than bears and chances of running into them in Idaho is high:)

I've spent my whole life in unit 1 and never seen one. Although this year I ran into a ton of griz sign.

I was lucky enough to be hunting in a drainage in unit 1 that was being used by biologists to bait/snare and collar bears. We saw 9 grizzlies in 4 days.... Fun times.

Didn't run into any this year but last year came across this.. That's a size 14 boot for reference. Not a very good feeling when you come across them but cool at the same time. This is unit 1.

Well I just won't let my wife read that ;) General pop doesn't look as Moose as a threat, lol.

Having worked in the back country in Wyoming on the edge of Yellowstone, I would agree that a cow moose with a calf is way more dangerous than a grizz. (Even had one hunter ask me if he was on a bear viewing tour when we watched a sow with triplets and he reminded me that he had seen 12 grizz and only 7 elk in the first three days of his hunt!)

I've hunted Idaho for the better part of 30 years and have never seen a grizz there. I hardly even think about bears in Idaho but I still try and keep a safe camp no matter where I am.

Very true. I spent all fall in griz country. Didn't see one. But I did think I was going to have to shoot a cow moose that was getting a little agitated.

The thing about bears is that even in "good" griz country, you don't see them most of the time.

I came across a boar track one year that my size 10 boot fit completely inside the hind foot pad. Dat was a big 'un
