Idaho elk: the NR draw

If they dumb enough to want points to “feel they got something” then they very well deserve the greatly reduced the # of times they’ll draw over their lifespan.

Put me in the F No to points group. Look at point systems all around. They’ve done nothing but create a creep issue and ruin chances of hunting.

People can Take the $200 elsewhere if they don’t like it.

100%. Preference points are participation trophies for hunters. They're a dead end. The people who want them, don't understand how it works. They'll sacrifice a tag for themselves now, and screw their kids and grandkids down the road.

Again, you have the option to apply in NV without purchasing a license…. NM is $65 and $13 per species, no one ever draws so they give all your money back. But sure, both are super expensive, no one should apply.
Lol. Of course, use the NV don't get any points with a 1 in a million chance as your example. Great analogy. NM makes you front the tag money, so, not sure where you're getting $13 at. Other than that being nonrefundable fee for applying. Sure, you get your tag money back if you don't draw, but you're still floating them an interest free loan until then.

you have to buy a lic in Arizona to apply. The full year combo lic. You used to be able to get a tag as an NR every year or two. I have a ton of points there, but since they capped the NR hunters I haven't drew a tag. Same with AZ deer. By the time you do draw a tag you have a ton of money in it.

We applied for archery tags in ID this year, Weiser River zone. I don't know anything about the area, it will be interesting if we draw.

My parents used to live in Kamiah and my uncle and aunt still do. Spent a lot of time fishing and turkey hunting that area and used to see elk. We'll see what happens.

Man I had no idea stating a few facts would get everyone's panties in a wad. Again, I am NOT giving advice or saying it's a good idea, just stating the facts that you can apply for $10-$18 per species in NV and $65 + $13 per species in NM (front fees but all refunded, so not money spent). I hope no one applies to either state period, don't care.

We are way off track and tired of trying to explain something that is going over several of y'alls heads. Im out... Good luck in the ID draw everyone, unless you applied for the same units I did :ROFLMAO:

The website says they will send an email when results are available. So I don't think we need to check much.
The licensing portal on the website will have the draw results long before the email will hit your inbox. The email always comes in about 4-5 hours after the results are available in the licensing portal in my experience. They send the emails in batches so it takes some time

IDFG social media will be the most timely notice.
Just my personal experience, but I always feel like the social media posts from IDFG come about an hour or so after I see rumblings online that the results are out.

The licensing portal will be updated before any posts or emails are sent. Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Yes, but if a guy doesn't want to continually check RS or update the license portal page, the most timely notice will be to set your social media to give notifications for IDFG account posts.

Maybe.. By the time IDFG posts anything, their website will be flooded and you will have to sit in the queue and wait an hour just to see your draw results.. Don't know if that can be timely, lol

A post from the IDFG Facebook page. This was posted about an hour ago.

" For those asking about the nonresident draw: The drawing is still in progress, and we are diligently working with our vendor to provide these results. When results are announced, you will receive a notification at the email address saved on your GoOutdoorsIdaho profile. We'll also post on our social media channels and website, through a press release and newsletters. "
