I need some clarification on Idaho non resident Deer tags.

Long story short I got shafted on 5 other states draws and I already have time allocated for a archery hunt, Idaho has always been on my List just never made it happen being that its a little far from home.

I plan to try to pick up a left over tag when they become available ( I know be logged in and ready cuz they go fast).

But according to idaho fish and game Limited draw applications are due June 5th and are draw Mid July. If i apply for a controlled hunt does that make me Ineligable for a left over general tag? if i draw the limited tag do i have to return the general tag? how does that work as a non resident ? and im assuming i need to purchase my hunting license and archery permit before the left over tags go on sale?

It’s doesn’t make you ineligible. If you draw you just exchange tags. My grandpas lucked out on 2 great deer tags in the draw as a non resident and we’ve done this twice.

Yes you can still put in for the draw. No it doesn’t make you ineligible to try for a returned tag if you don’t draw. Call a Fish and Game office and they will get your questions answers. I personally have had very good and knowledgeable service from the Pocatello office specifically.

No. If you are planning to buy a hunting license to get a general tag, it would be a BIG mistake to not apply in the controlled draw.

If you end up with two tags, you effectively exchange them. Technically, you do not draw a tag in the controlled draw. You essentially drew the right to purchase that tag.

No, you can purchase at time of sale. It technically will be a smidge faster to purchase ahead of time (and doing this ahead of time gets you into the controlled draw for pennies as mentioned above).
