Idaho Careers/Job Markets

I've been traveling/working/hunting in Idaho since 2011 give or take. I love the state and even made efforts to move there in 2020 but I took a promotion at my current company that meant remote work was not an option anymore which killed that opportunity. I don't regret that decision but as the years have progressed dynamics have changed.

My son will be graduating and once he does, I'll be looking at Idaho again. I'm not married so "where" in Idaho is kinda open however I would like to look at areas that have a job market that align with my skills.

I'm currently a senior operations project manager in a technical field (think big defense). Background in military aviation, machine shop/production/mfg. I've googled plenty but would like to hear some first hand information from those who might know/have specific inputs.

Those who live and work in Idaho: what towns and what companies would be a place you'd look at? If you have thoughts, could you speak to the quality of working and living in said area? Are there networks I could get plugged into that you're familiar with?

Boise/Treasure Valley sucks is about the best I can give you. I live in Nampa and wish daily to move from here.

Maybe there are some jobs near INL for somebody who’s worked for “big defense”

Agree with above. I could never live in the treasure valley but unfortunately that's the biggest job market by a huge margin. For most, Boise is probably a very nice city compared to where you come from.
Thanks guys. Yea I was looking at Eagle back in vid-19 days when I was remote and the traffic out there wasn't great. Albeit nothing compared to DFW. I get what yall are saying though. I do enjoy Boise as a city personally. Thanks for the comments

INL is on my radar as well

I came from Portland or, and have been to almost every major city in the US for work. You can do a hell of a lot worse.

Twin falls has a lot of food manufacturing plants that you could look into as well.

Agree with this as well. There's a lot worse but understandable as while I don't live there. I have seen it change over the years and for folks from the area the sentiment surrounding the growth boom is certainly a familiar one

Food Mfg ... thanks! Had a buddy come from Tyson years ago that I still work with. Need to research big potato 😆

What about HP are they still in Boise? Have not been up that way for awhile. I always liked Idaho, beautiful state.

Keep in mind Texas has no personal income tax while Idaho does.

Unfortunately it has steers, queers, and meat soup (chili has beans in it).

Not to mention no public land per se and unfortunately cowboys fans.

I work at the Advanced Test Reactor (part of INL) and have really liked it. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions!
