Idaho 2nd non Resident draw

Has IDFG published anywhere how many applicants there were in the first draw yet?

This was a screencap from a commission meeting. Less applications than applicants due to group applications

Yes 1150 elk and 1909 deer tags. I have talked to no less than 8-10 guys that drew and did not buy. They all said it was not the first choice, and their friends did not draw. One guy asked me, where is the Frank Church. I'm taking it, as guys don't want to go solo.

We will be applying along with 48k others for the tags.
From what I understood, they were going to exhaust everyone's first choice before moving to second choice. I find it improbable with the amount of applicants that anyone's second choice was chosen. Unless it was a unit that's in the Frank.

My guess is some people that applied as a party are no longer buddies, because if one person failed to purchase the tag, all party members would have their tags returned. Wondering if anyone can confirm this as this is what game and fish said when I called.
So let me get this straight, so if myself and my two friends all drew elk tags, and myself and friend #1 bought and paid for their tag the day we got the email, but friend #2 didn't purchase his tag, IDFG is going to take my tag away from me, and refund me my $761.00? I do not see that happening!

I'm not worried because we all paid for our tags, but something sounds a little fishy to me.

No I made it crystal clear when I called, since the question was not answered anywhere in the new regs, the lady had to go check with someone before answering. I’m hoping someone could verify it because I had my doubts they were actually capable of implementing it. I would also trust some random WKR more so than the lady picking up the phone at ID/MT game and fish 60% of the time all the time.
I replied to your other post as well, I honestly don't see how they can do that, and there is clearly nothing in the regulations about that. Again, like i said in my other post, I have a bought and paid for tag, with a receipt, if my buddy doesn't pay, i lose my tag and Idaho gives me my money back, I don't ever see that happening. You honestly think they're going to go thru the trouble to do all of that, after they already have the money in they're hand.? Sounds to me like someone at IDFG need to get their chit together!

I suspect other states are going to follow suit and make OTC a draw.... they are creating all this hype and Idaho just sold somewhere in the realm of 50,000 non res hunting licenses. That's a good chunk of money that other F&G agencies are not going to ignore.

I had all the same exact thoughts as you. Only reason I called is because we applied for deer too since it’s free and not all 4 were committed to buying it if we drew. Will be interesting to see if some people don’t end up with tags because of it. It would maybe explain some of the returned tags still being available for some better zones tho.

“Creating the hype”

Couldn’t have said it better. It’s like everyone who don’t need toilet paper running to buy toilet paper when the news tells them the world is ending
