Icebreaker Merino at Cabelas

I just picked up 3 from my local cableas. They are 100% and are very soft. They will take extra care so they don't rip/snag etc, but very comfortable....and for the price....you really can't beat it....
I am in between M and L......the M will be great as a base layer...the L will be great as nice, comfy t-shirt.....

The cheaper is a 170 weight (grams)-the other is 200

Where did you see that? I see that the other is 200 weight but couldn't find a weight on the cheaper one. I would have preferred the 170's over 200's. Looks like my short sleeve ones will have to do. After they show up I'll evaluate and decide if I want to change them out.

I REALLY don't understand this one: Cabela's Online Store - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear

$200 for a 70/30 merino acrylic shirt that looks the same as the cheap ones.

The 170 gram shirt says so in the Q & A section. I assume the 70/30 shirt is considerably heavier, the reviews describe it as a sweater. I still would pass on it though. I picked up a Icebreaker hoodie at STP that heavy, 100% merino (240, I think), and it's one of my favorite insulating pieces.

The 170 gram shirt says so in the Q & A section. Ya, but if you look at the Q&A for the short sleeve version that is the same as the LS, one guys says 185 and another says 150. Don't the Cabela's technical guys answer these questions? Or do they open it up to any boob on the net?

For insulating I've never found a merino garment that is worth a darn. The 200+ Chama's were useless IMO, and the 400 weight FL Labrador actually made me feel colder and it is a heavy jacket.

Probably any boob on the net

This particular question is answered by "CabelasExpert50" -- which I assumed was a Cabela's tech support guy, but I suppose it could be anybody.

I always liked wool, going back to the old, scratchy brown sweaters the Army used to issue, but to each his own. I've added that Icebreaker hoodie many times after being in a tree stand a couple hours, and it's made my life a whole lot more pleasant, but I should have clarified, I wasn't talking bitter cold -- more like 20-30 degrees on a November morning. I have some old polartec I break out for middle-of-winter hunts / ice fishing, under a parka that (I think) is prima loft, (maybe thinsulate).

I never been warmer than with the new Merino and synthetic garments I have bought over the last few years. I used to ALWAYS be cold hunting....now..I stay nice and toasty. I always have a close to skin Merino layer, then various, thicker merino, synthetic or fleece mid layers depending on the temp. Then of course a puffy, outer jacket and rain gear as needed.
Hunting clothes have come a long way......
