First time with my hunting rifles and had a blast . I took my Kimber .280AI and my Savage Ultralight 28 Nosler . The targets were steel 9 inch circles at 100 , 200 , 300 , 400 , and 500 .
I reload for both guns (rookie reloader) , and was very happy with my results . I used Strelok for my dope and dialed for drop , but the wind was 4-8 mph and the RO was helping me figure that out .
I hit the 100, 200 , 300 , 400 , and 500 , five shots for five targets , two times with both rifles (with a lengthy cool down period) and was able to hit where the RO said to aim , 9 o'clock at the ten ring and so on .
This was my first time dialing , (I've always used Nikon BDC reticle before) , and it was fun .
At the Okeechobee Shooting Center , great range and good people .

With modern ballistic apps, doppler chronographs like LabRadars, and quality scopes, long range shooting is no longer the voodoo magic it once was.

Hardest part is getting all the inputs right (to include wind!), once that’s figured out, it’s just basic marksmanship.

Amazing how far a bullet will drift with just a 5-10MPH wind at 500 yards.

At 500 yards my 300 WSM with 150 grain bullets will drift about 9" with a 5 MPH wind.

Right , and this was a swirling wind , at times it seemed like it was going one way where we were and the complete opposite at the targets . The RO was a big help , he was ex military and knew his stuff, IMO .

What size steel were you shooting at?

There is nothing like the sweet sound of steel!
I think they were 8 inch round targets , maybe 9 , I'm not sure . I'm going back on 4-25 , I'll find out for sure.
It was fun , I plan on doing it until I feel confident shooting at this distance .

8-10 inch steel is great for practicing.
I got out for the first time since my surgery and stretched the legs of 3 different specialty pistols yesterday afternoon late out to 1000 yards-It was such a good time!
First video is of Chuck's steel range. Now it only has 5" and 10" steel out to 900 yards (Second video). 14" and 5" at 1K. At 500, 750is, and 1K yards he also has big fixed plates, where you can paint multiple aiming points on. Once you get past 1200 yards he has man-sized targets to shoot at.

I've not been to the 500 yd before but have shot at their other ranges (100/200 yd + clays)
You can pre register on the website , go to ranges , click 500 yards and theres a place to sign up , saves you time and makes sure there is a spot for you , there is only like ten shooting stations . JFYI
