Changing up my kit a little for 2015. I just received my EE quilts today. Revelation Reg/Wide 10 and 30 degree. Planning on doing some controlled environment testing this winter wearing my hunting clothes and the puffy to get a good gauge on the quilt temperature ratings (I sleep a little on the cold side). 30 degree should work great for late spring and summer here in Colorado but I want to push the temperature just to see where I land. The 30 degree may surprise me and possibly carry me over into archery Elk season (10 degree quilt for sure) will be running the Xtherm wide pad. This was pretty easy decision for me. Shelters are a bit tougher. I typically run a bivy and tarp. I could shave some weigh here by changing up a few things and I just enjoy changing things up how and again. After researching and reading shared opinions here on the Rokslide; I have narrowed it down to three. The SO LBO. Looks like it would have several run options with and W/O the vestibule. The BearPaw Pyra Tent (I keep coming back to this) available in Cuben and just up the road from me. The 3rd contender The Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo LE. Any of these Shelters would put my total sleep system around 4.5lbs or less. The shelters all seem to weigh in reasonably close given the accessories and options I would choose for each shelter. It’s weight to space ratio and desired features. Each shelter has features I like. And that is what is making it tuff. Happy Thanksgivings RokSliders and to yours.

Perhaps consider adding Mountain Laurel Designs Duomids to your list. Impeccable craftsmanship and bomber. Cuben or Sil, I like them both.

Kifaru has a few variants that fit in that realm if you want to go that route - paratarp, supertarp, megatarp, and paratipi. All are 3.5 lbs or less all inclusive. You might want to consider whether you want to run a stove. OwareUSA also does nice work.

I'll second the MLD duomid. I don't have any first-hand experience with Mt. Laurel designs but I do know that they make one hell of a shelter, and extremely good craftsmanship. The stuff that HMG makes, I think is probably equally as good, and BearPaw wilderness designs, although a fair amount cheaper, the craftsmanship is still pretty solid. I'm also a big fan of cuben fiber.

I used a Seek Outside LBO shelter this season and I absolutely love it. I went with the 3-piece vestibule and found it to be the perfect size for 2 guys (both 6'3") and their packs and bows/guns. It held up very well in 2 wet snow storms. Zipping the vestibule on and off is a piece of cake which is nice since removing the vestibule converts the shelter into a great 1 man shelter for just about 1lb. There are other great choices out there for sure. If you are like me and are looking for VERSATILITY, I think the LBO would make you very happy.

One last note. I don't use the pole extender when I use the LBO as a one man shelter so that saves a tiny bit of extra weight.

Almost forgot to mention that you made a good choice in going with EE quilts. My wife and I have been very pleased with our 20 degree quilts.
