...But what's the best way to carry my bow, like this:

Or this:

If you carry it the second method, you better be darned sure you watch your pack when you take it off. If you forget and sit down with your pack, or swing it off and dump it you seriously risk damaging your cam.

I carry it vertically on my pack, but I strap it up higher so that the bottom cam is protected. If I wasn't in brush or trees the first way would work just fine.

I'm leaning towards the first way. I will only have it attached to my frame like that while I hike in. Plus, I scratched the crap outta my limb pockets last year, it's a wonder that I didn't break my cam last year before I busted the limb all to hell.

I carry mine in the second configuration, on a Timberline 2 with a Grab-it. I use a Thermarest Z-Seat to protect the bottom cam and keep it strapped high enough to avoid direct ground contact.

Unless you are in wide open country, the horizontal carry is not an option. I always carry mine vertically using a Kifaru grab-it and a strap. Like stated above, you obviously can't throw your pack down.

If you only hike on roads and in fields.... horizontal. For everything else, vertical. You can always tell when the season is close because crazy obvious threads start popping up when people are getting so antsy they can't contain it any more. Haha

I am using the kifaru gun bear method to carry my bow this year. Tried out scouting and it works but will need to tinker a bit on how to make sure it stays out of my way when using treking poles.

I'm giving this a try as well, not sure if it will last more then a day from initial runs but gonna give it some time before giving up.

i don't know a single trail i hunt where i could mount a bow sideways like that. pretty standard to have them strapped on vertical. keep it high and be aware of your over head obstructions . as far as carrying your bow in your hand, obviously that's how you hunt but packing in is something else. camp on my back and trekking poles in both hands puts the bow on my pack. im usually packing in a day before the season any way so there's not much point in carrying the bow. plus who wants to just carry it for the hell of it miles on end

also i carry it like how jason has it shown. right side up. ive never liked the upside down carry. as before mentioned over head obstructions can pull arrows right out of your quiver with you never knowing it.

I carry mine right side up vertical. I pull it off when get near where I expect animals otherwise I have found packing it in causes unnecessary shoulder fatigue on long treks.
