Look reeeeaally hard at what it takes to feed it properly before you dive in, is all I'll say. Being a non-standard cartridge makes it a bit of a dick to deal with. Enough that although it was number 2 on my list, after a couple of days worth of research, it dropped right off.

Nah. 338's barely a step up. I went 9.3.

9.3X62 is an easy button approach. I screwed up when I built my 9.3X64 Brenneke and went 1:16 twist barrel. I should have gone 1:14 to shoot the Cutting Edge Raptor bullets. They are flat out wicked. That said, I've been happy swatting animals with 250gr Nosler AB's and 286gr Partitions.

You'll like it. Easy to load, easy to shoot, and very effective.

What kind of distance and accuracy are you getting out of 9.3? I honestly dont know anything about it. Im definitely going to do some reading on that round.

I got her all finished up this week.
Jesse did his usual awesome job on the bore & chamber. I cut & crowned the barrel at 20"
Installed a shallow V express rear sight, soldered on a barrel band sling mount & ramped front sight. Then reblued the whole thing
My intention was to leave the stock alone but it just didn't look right, so i hacked 4" off the end, pillar & glass bedded the action, lug & chamber, installed & fit a leftover Winchester recoil pad, then reprofiled the forend & hand rubbed 8 coats of Truoil. Topped it all off with a Vx3iHD 1.5-5 in steel weaver rings on steel Burris bases.

Made a boo-boo & ended up with a bad sliver out of the wood.....

But i fixed it up with epoxy & elbow grease!


I really wish I'd done a 'Before' but this is the 'After'. I'm headed to the range with it tomorrow.

Well hell. I thought I'd posted!
She's awesome! 3 shots just over an inch at 100 (at the time) with 64gn of Ramshot Big Game & Prvi 285gn sp at 2350fps.

Now it's had a few more rounds through it, it tightened up to about 3/4 at 100. I haven't tried it further yet, but i have no reason to suppose anything will differ. The irons are fixed & set for 100yds. I'm not great at that range & I doubt I'll ever use them beyond 50. My 100 yd zero is pretty much perfect inside of that. I did verify several times, that i can dismount & re-mount the scope with no loss of zero.

The 'H' is Hornady 286gn, the 'P' is the Prvi. The shown charges showed identical accuracy & POI, but was the only good group I got from the Hornady. Prvi were consistently great up to this charge. A half grain over opened things up.

I picked up an 8lb jug. It was a 3 hour round trip drive, mind you, but worth it!
