I have found the elk on public land!

Another tip for you. When looking at country in 3D on ONX, pull up a known area close to you and adjust the 3D scale until it represents the area you are familiar with and then compare to where you are going. ITs easy to under estimate elevation change when the 3D on OnX isnt right
What I have done in the past in google earth is to set the elevation exaggeration to 3x and just told myself it won't look that bad in person but it might feel that bad on my legs.

There are already some spots I've found that have scary steep elevation changes - I'm not worried about falling, I'm just worried that if she shoots an elk at the bottom of some of those hills the next 2 days will be torture.

State the area and people can be more able to help you. I am in WY, so no help. If you were in an area that I knew though, I’d definitely be willing to help. Karma goes a long ways. If people know you are willing to help others, they are more apt to help you.

If I was headed to a hard-to-draw unit like a unit 2 bull hunt, I'd absolutely do that. I have even thought about trying to get a cow tag and then offering to tag along with a bull hunter or tag-team if they saw a herd of cows or I found a big bull, we could help each other hunt in a hard-to-draw unit. But in a unit that can be hunted OTC or on a low point 1st rifle draw, as badly as I would like to talk to more people that have hunted it, it isn't worth it. Every word posted about a specific unit online in the last 25 years is still there and I can say that because in the last six weeks I've read a book's worth of info from people who have hunted this area. Don't get me wrong I'd love to have the help, but I'd rather not further damage the unit. I guess it's a 'tragedy of the commons' sort of thing.
