I am considering getting my Tikka dipped at a local hydrographics shop here in Sacramento. However, I am a little bit worried about how it will hold up in the long run.

For anyone that has done this, can you report on how the camo has held up over the years? Possibly post a picture of the wear?

Thanks.

My understanding is that the dip is essentially just ink that is applied to the gun after it has been painted with a base coat. So, as long as the paint is applied correctly, it should last quite well. With that said, I would make sure they prep the stock properly before doing the dip. I just picked up my stock the other day and had to give it right back as they did a crappy prep job and the paint started to chip immediately. The place I used here in KC has a two year warranty against chipping so they will stand behind their work.

Also, on the first go around they did not mask off the interior of the stock. I don't know if this really matters or not but it was definitely a tight fit trying to get the action back in. Now, I didn't try to remove the recoil lug so the layers of paint on it caused issues. I would highly suggest that you have them mask off the inside of the stock especially over the recoil lug and that little saddle where the barrel isn't quite fully floated. In my case, the company is going to blast the scope back to stock and start over. They are also going to mask off as much as they can.

Glad they're standing behind their work. I have a spare M1A stock that would look pretty good in Kryptek Typhon that I might experiment on with the DIY kits. If that holds up I might do some others in Highlander. My Kimber Montana stock was duracoated in OD w/ black webbing and that's worn off in some areas so hopefully hydrodipping is the way to go.
