Just wanted to get some opinions.. I just ran across this hydrapak and wanted to see if anybody had any experience or thoughts on which would be a better hydration system.. Looking at 3L.

MSR has a new one out, the Hydromedary.

I like it so far, although the opening isn't as large as a Camelbak, so harder to clean and dry.

That's exactly why I like the Camelbak more than any other I have looked at or tried yet other than Source. The opening size needs to be big enough so I can get my hand inside to clean and dry. Platypus big zip is smaller than the camelbak openings by just enough I don't want to force my hand in and break the zip. Source has a nice folding top that is by far the easiest to clean and dry. I cannot imagine trying to clean one of the MSR bags and then dry it.

I have two of the Source hydration bags. One with quick disconnects one without. Have only used the one with no disconnects for a few years now. I like it, easy to use and easy to clean, no bad taste. This year I will try the disconnect one. They seem to be tough too.

i have 2 of the 3L source bladders. never had a problem with them. different bladder materials than your op options. one source is still new in package since the first i opened has been flawless. i use the msr as well and like the msr materials better but really either is great. i am thinking the msr will have better durability due to exterior material? time will tell.... both mine have seen much use and will take either.

im confused on this...... hard to dry? air dry mine, personally i never stick my hands in mine to dry. i wash mine with anti bacterial soap rinse, then shack all i can out except a few drops hang and its dry over nite. never had a problem in all the years of use. same goes for the drink hose. do you stick your hands in the drink hose as well?.......... nope didnt think so.

Yea my msr drom bags are easier to dry than any camelback or source bladder iv ever owned.

I use the msr bladders cause they are tough.

Maybe I'll try them if they really dry that fast. I get some paper towels down in the bag to hold it open a little and let it air dry.

I just take the cap off my dromedary bags and hang them by the grommet. I haven't had a problem at all aetting them to dry, and I actually found it's easier to dry them.

Or if you use them a lot you can just leave them full. My 2l gets left full year round.

I have a number of bladders; Dromedary, Hydrostorm (super tough mil contract Camelback), a number of Platypus in various sizes, and a Badlands (I like the square shape for some of my packs). Each has things I like about them for specific needs. As of yet I don't own a zipper top bladder.

What I like about the Dromedary is it's tough as hell. But that also mean it's heavy. Mine is a 10L and I mainly use it as a shower bag & dirty water bag for the grav filter at base camp. I have the shower hose for it and because it's black, it does well as a base camp solar shower. Although I spike it w/ a pot of hot water from the Jetboil.

The Platy's I like because they are SUPER light & I mainly use them as collapsible UL storage bottles for clean camp water and use them on the bottom of the gravity filter. Some of the smaller 1L Platy's I use as collapsible flasks for various alcohol spirits at base camp. Once empty, I'll toss one in my pack just in case I need a bottle for a little extra water down in some hell hole.

The bladder I use the most is the Hydrostorm, simply because it has it's own insulated cover w/ shoulder straps, insulated hose, and good on/off valve built into the mouth piece. I have mine set up w/ quick disconnects and can either back filter into it, OR I can put on an inline filter. Because it has shoulder straps it's the one I grab the most to go scouting with. I also sewed straps w/ buckles that snap onto the back of my pack.

However I have been eyeing one of the newer style zipper/clip top bladders. Easier to clean. But I'm not sure how well they seal up. The first one I had leaked when it was subjected to pressure inside the pack. I can't have a bladder leak inside my pack. I gave that one to my brother to use as a dirty water bag on his gravity filter system. I've shied away from them since.... however they are improving and maybe I need to revisit them.

I feel stupid now. Initially thought the Hydrapak was a different bladder. I like the design and it should provide easy cleaning when necessary and drying. Very similar design to Source or camelbak big zip.
