I have discovered for me that 28 normal walking steps equals 20 yards. It may differ for others depending on stride length.
Often I will stop at a specific location and try to estimate how far it is to an object in the distance, then walk directly to the object counting my steps to see how accurate I am. I do this in the woods and other places, too ( i.e. distance from a store curb to my vehicle. If I estimate the distance to be say 35 yards then I should be taking about 49 steps )
