However, the erection or placement of any blind or tree stand by any person does not reserve the blind or tree stand for personal use. All such blinds and tree stands remain available for use to the general public on a first come, first-served basis. "

Bingo. Feel free to put it up knowing it’s free to use by anyone anytime. But I would move if the owner came to use it out of respect.

Would never use any stand that I have not fully tested myself. Never know if someone did something unsafe to it trying to mod it in someway. Screw that.

Hunt the wallow and smile for camera. But never use someone else's stand.

On several occasions I have found have found tree stands on WMAs. I usually wrap it a piece of surveyors tape to let the owner know it has been located. They changed the rule a few years ago on leaving a stand overnight, as it now allowed. Installed a lock-on with steps one week day with the intent of returning the next morning. Work demands (24 hr. call) changed my plan and I was delayed 1 day. Walked in to my spot on day 3 and found my lock on (tripped over it) in the middle of the right of away! No one stole it but the message was clear. I made a hunt that morning after erecting the lock-on in the dark. Took it down that afternoon and did not return.

Have since found spots on the ground utilizing a seat and some blind material. Have also used a ladder stand in a jungle patch of small crooked trees covered with vines. Have trouble locating the well camouflaged ladder stand and I know it is there. The hunter activity is very low in the late season and I have had good success getting close to deer in this location. Realize one day it may be missing if I continue this practice. Always enjoyed listening and watching the woods come alive with the dawn. I like to enter well before day light as the highly pressured deer move a 1st light in this location near a well used gravel road. Don't always have the time, but when possible I use my Kayak to access a few choice spots. Never have problems with hunter pressure once I put water between myself and the other hunters. LaGriz

Definitely would not use it. I would look at it the same way as if someone left a tent in the woods.

Just so we're all in agreement. Regardless of if you hunt the stand, the wallow or just pass on,. Everyone smiles and gives a big thumbs up to the camera right???

I mean to introduce yourself to your fellow Hunter. . .

In my book: Leaving a portable stand up on public land isn't cool.
Putting it up the day before to hunt in the morning ..sure. Building a permanent one is illegal around here. I liken it to putting up a tent weeks before the season to reserve your spot. I wouldn't touch it or move it but...

If it's not yours don't touch it.

No way would I climb into a stand that I didn't place myself. For many reasons.

If I was the guy in the video I may have hunted the wallow but not from the stand.

I know guys have hunted mine on public land, but I don’t think I could hunt someone else’s stand. Near it sure.

I had a somewhat similar experience a couple years back while gun hunting near Irons. Except, while I'm walking out to my blind (on state land) a flashlight shines me from it!! Needless to say, I'm pretty PO'd!! But considering the fact that I'm on state land, I bite my tongue and at least get my seat (already there) from this "hunter". I took some heat at the cabin for not standing my ground, but I think I did the wise thing. Do you agree?

Wallow yes, from the stand-no.If one knows it's an even fairly well known wallow,he's a damn fool for leaving it first off and secondly likely trying to monopolize a spot.Sadly it works once in awhile as well.If not marked as required, turn them in.

If your truck is at a trail head, I'll just get in the bed and lounge there since it's on public land. If the doors aren't locked, I'm getting in. If I find your camp, I'm crawling in your tent for a nap. If I see you hunting out there on public land, I'm going to hustle on over and start to shadow you through the woods since I really enjoy your help and efforts on public land. Oh ya, and if you run a bear bait site where you've hauled hundreds of pounds of bait in on your back a mile from the road, I'll hunt over your bait site too so that I can take advantage of any and all situations I find on "public lands". Thank You all for allowing me to use you and your stuff without having to lift a finger.....

I killed a bull out of someone else's tree stand. Public land and no truck at the gate. I have another spot I'd been hunting, about 3 years ago a stand showed up, I killed a cow out of it, and by the evidence he did too.

I just can't wrap my head around all the people that will exploit other's personal property! sure you should hunt that wallow but you might as well be cozy with AOC if you think you can just commandeer and sit in someone else's effort and property.

Did you forget your sarcasm font??

Because by placing your private property on public land, you are agreeing to abide by the laws governing the public, which in the cases being discussed mean you are agreeing to allow first come first serve use of YOUR stand due to the laws in place.

I would not hunt that stand, first its someone else's property and I personally don't trust stands that I do not hang myself! Would I hunt that wallow, hell yes - but from the ground or my own stand. I personally would never go in someones stand or blind even if there not around and I would expect others to have the same respect towards my equipment left afield. If your hunting someones treestand then is it ok If you find a trailcamera on public land to open it up and check the SD card and put it back to see if you should hunt that spot? I would be pissed if I came to hunt and someone was in my stand even when they willingly get down and move on. Even though its public land and its all our land, we should all show RESPECT to anothers personal property.
