I hunted Lanai in June and was able to take a nice buck with my bow. The whole experience was amazing. Lanai is beautiful. Make sure you eat at both Nobus on the island. Also recommend getting poke at Richard’s market. We liked it so much we went back in December.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hey bud, thanks for the reply. We are doing the rifle pulama rifle hunt. Also drew the same week for archery in the state land stuff. Do you have any pointers for pulama?

Sorry I do not! I was on private. I think rifle will be significantly easy. People are not joking when they say that an axis deer will jump an arrow, even from 20 yards. I saw a deer jump mile just from being startled from another one drinking water.

The pulama is the private stuff. One group a day I guess. Unit B is our area. Ring a bell?

Hunting Hawai'i...what a dream. It will be pretty straight forward, so not much to worry about. Some thoughts:
1. Learn and respect the culture. So rich and still cherished today.
2. Find something with lilikoi...you're welcome.
3. Make sure you ship meat home.
4. Take a pair of hikers and your mountain boots. Higher stuff is rougher and I like having my Kenetreks. As you drop down the dirt is softer and you don't need the heavy soles.
5. I like shooting sticks, lots of undulation in the ground.
6. If you're coming from any elevation, you'll feel like superman running up and down the mountain.
7. That volcanic dirt will stain, so careful what you wear.
8. Learn the night sky. One of the few places you can see both Polaris and the Southern Cross.
9. There are lots of foraging opportunities, on land and in the ocean. Take advantage.
10. Read some travel blogs on how to not be a tourist.
11. Find some local art and bring it home.

Appreciate it. I am going with a local to the big island so should be good on not being a tourist. I’m just trying to find some starting points or areas of interest to check out. Only have a couple days snd want to make the best out of it. Thanks again. 🍻

hey FNG who only joined this forum asking to ask for honeyholes. the pulama areas are hunted 365 days a year. there's no secrets. walk a lot and bring lots of water. you'll need it. The number of deer is way down on the island and they are only giving out one either sex tag on the state side this year bc because of the mismanagement and drought.
