Hunting in SoCal

Sheep Mountain Wilderness area has lots of deer. It is tough country and equally tough hunting. Years ago it had lots of Bighorn Sheep, lions and a few bears.....and lots of rattlesnakes.

I am a 4th generation Californian (born & lived in Downey) until I retired and moved to Colorado when I retired in 2000. Shot lots of deer all over the state. This is a 5x5 buck I killed in Malibu/Santa Monica Mts. with a bow in 1970.new 002.JPG

Was this part of the LA forearm closure? I have a hi resolution PDF a warden sent me a couple months ago. The issue is, if your sharing the LA closure and not a state issued one, there is no ordinance to support the closures. It's essentially just a map with colors on it without anything that says, "Of you shoot a gun here, you can be penalized under this ordinance in court."
Mostly it's just a safety thing, the closure is along the foothills, and by Mt Baldy, as people live up there too. And there's also that restaurant up by "Crystal" (yeah right!) Lake.

NOTE: Once when we took our Scout Troop up to that Crystal Lake? As we were hiking over to take the kids to the lake? WOO! I was seeing all kindsa Bear Scat and scratches on the trees up high! Sucks that it's in a place ya can't take 'em from. :*(
