Hunting in SoCal

Thought I would put my two cents in. I had a rather exciting bear encounter recently in D11. There are so many bears in that zone, I feel like we could clear the entire quota in D11 alone. I won't be in there without a sidearm ever again. I'm gonna reload some 45 ACP mono's/hard cast or just buy some to have racked in my 1911. I am a new "mammal" hunter and wanted to get a buck before I shot a bear but I will be swinging by big 5 to grab a bear tag today.

I enjoyed the posts you guys put up. I did zero scouting in D11 and with the season coming to an end for general, I'm going to consider everything you guys posted for next year. I am still optimistic about this area. I've seen too many deer prior to starting to hunt to think this area isn't holding quality bucks. It will just take a lot of work.
Once you grab that bear tag you'll never see a bear again during the hunting season 😂

I’ve seen more lions than bears this year. 4 lions and zero bears in d-11 to be specific. There are some giant bears though. I just found these tracks last week. I’ve also seen some good bucks this year but I’m archery hunting and haven’t been able to break 150 yards on them.

Went out for my first day of hunting this year in the inland empire and couldn’t pass this up - I asked my wife and my dad and they didn’t want to shoot it so found him in a shootable spot the next morning and got him before someone else did… I’ll leave out the fact that some guys that didn’t speak English and were probably poaching … tried to direct me away from the deer (probably so they could take it)….

Bro, I know right! I've seen so many bears though, I cannot imagine not getting one. After being almost mauled last week, it is personal.
Shit I'd almost be happy to almost get mauled by one just to see them, we've cut fresh tracks and super fresh bear shit multiple times and never got a whiff. Found some scat that was at most an hour old a couple hundred yards from where we were glassing that morning. Also found tracks and bumped something off my deer carcass the morning after I shot him. We were maybe 500 yards away from the carcass all day glass for more deer.

You say that now, if you were in the situation I was in the other day, you would change your tune. The broad side pic is the one that tried to kill me and the other is a different bear of equal size that might be hard to make out in the pic. Look close

So youre running into them in some very thick stuff in the oaks, im amazed you can get that close to them with without spooking them considering how loud that stuff is. Youre right though obviously I dont wanna be charged by a bear it would just be nice to shoot one 😅

Get in there and post up. I think now is the time. I think they are super active in our area right now

Well.. the green new acorns are all dropping about now out there... aren't they?

Where I hunted this year, they were done dropping before the end of the season. But of course that can vary from location to location, even not far away.

Same for me too. Most area had all dropped. I think that rain we had played a part (which I do not understand) in them coming off early. There are definitely a lot of nuts still on the ground all over though.

Yea ill be getting out there in November and December. We got some spots in D14 and my buddy has the biggest bear ive ever seen on his camera so we may be targeting him. Im e-scouting some oaky looking spots in D11 as well to maybe check out.

Different spot in D11 today. Had a small bear down creek from me, but I couldn't get close to him. Was trying to fill this deer tag out so wasn't focused on it. Tons and tons of green acorn in this area.

Man I need whatever cologne youre wearing to attract these bears 😂

Still no bear sightings… but I had this guy jump airborne in front of me today so I had to take him and put him in the freezer .
Make sure you know about what kind of licensecure you need to have in order to take a Rattler. You need a Fishing License, that I recall. I know it sounds weird. But go check for yourself! Look It Up! Just be careful and KNOW FOR SURE you can take a particular critter. Before you do. and also sometimes they close off certain public land areas when AI fire happened nearby as well. So ya also gotta keep aware of any closure sin affect BEFORE you go and oopsie and take a critter in a place they don't want ya in atm. Could be big trouble for you financially.

Well, I'm a pretty experienced rock climber and have not complained, but I have thought a lot of D11 is pretty rough. The issue is that it is hard to cover a lot of ground. I just watched S1 E2 of meat eater for like the fifth time over the years. I'll not complain anymore. Now I know our lands are not as bountiful but its also a short drive for a lot of us.

You don't need any kind of license to harvest rattlesnakes. There is a bag and possession limit which I don't recall what they are, but I know for sure you do not need a license for harvesting rattlesnakes.
