Hunting in a 4Runner

Eye opening isnt it. I rolled a bronco years back and between rifles flying outta windows and the factory jack ripping outta the wall an ping ponging around...Made a guy think about what all was in there

No joke!

I had a chainsaw, gas, 2 backpacks, a rifle, tire chains, etc......... Glad none of it came forward. I think a lot more about tying stuff down back there now.

I found one rifle in the ditch and the other was under the roof of the truck. That jack was screwed to the wall behind a panel. If there had been a passenger that jack woulda done very bad things. How it didnt clip me while I was corkscrewing down the ditch, I will never know.

Mine wasn't too violent (good thing, it was early in the morning and neither of us had put our seat belt on) and everything stayed in the back. The one I think about the most is the chainsaw. I would hate to have that thing thump me in the back of the head.

My rifle was still zeroed, lol.......

I’d invest in a heavy duty rear cargo hauler like the one shown up thread. Roof racks are great for certain things, but they are so loud at highway speeds. Having a gas can and large cooler on the rear cargo hauler is great. Pretty much everything else can fit inside.

You might consider a come along and quality tow rope vs a new bumper/winch. That would save you some weight and money.

Something like this is super handy to get the rack a little higher. I use one on my Outback.

I saw it go..light,dark,light,dark,light,dark,light,dark..a bunch of times. looking at that lil bronco2 afterwards I'm not so sure it didnt go front to back a time or two as well. Had a rather messed up bannana shape to it. Crawled on the roof out the back window lol

If it werent so expensive, I could see doin that every month or so. Thats a hell of a rush!

It’s sitting at 117k, carfax shows pretty good dealer service history. I’ll start getting fluids and other maintenance handled. Planning to ride this one out for a while.

I’m going to get an air pump, haven’t really looked into them much but I think I’m going to go with a descent quality portable pump. I’m honestly only going to be airing down 1-3 times a year.

To sleep on I’ll likely just cut some plywood to fit and flatten the hump then throw a cushion over. Nothing fancy. I’m pretty easy, just like to sleep whenever pretty quickly without much setting up or anything.

As for as suspension, maybe it’s because I came from a stiff 2500, but im really loving the ride. I have no desire to change anything that will change the ride as of now. Yea, they do look cooler with a lift, I just not ready to sacrifice ride quality.

I was planning to get a set of chains, didn’t give it much thought about not being able to fit them. I’ll have to look into that. I’m going to keep the stock 265 tire size if anyone can confirm chains will or will not fit?

I’ve looked into the large fish cooler bags a little more. I think that would be the way to go. Strap it to the roof rack with a few bags of ice and head home. And if I don’t kill i wouldn’t be toting around a large Cooler for nothing.

It was a little more of a rush than I personally need!

I didn't have collision on mine, so it was indeed a little expensive. It cost a grand to get it towed to the salvage yard I sold it to. I really liked that rig. I knew I wanted another 4th gen V8 and it took me almost a year to find another one.

The story is a lot more fun to tell now a couple years down the road.

seems like stock height I can only fit 275’s which are more expensive and just a little bigger. I mean would they honestly get me more places than good 265’s? And be worth the gas mileage loss? I’m not totally against it, I’m just more of a function over coolness person.

In my case the tow company wanted to charge me for the tow and then they would "dispose" of the vehicle for free if I gave them the title. That didn't set terribly well with me and I made some calls, found a Toyota specific salvage yard 40 or 50 miles from the tow company who would give me $1,000, and just had the tow company take it there. To be fair, they had to come 50-60 miles up to where it was wrecked.

So essentially I got the same deal, just not from the tow company.

One of those deals that would be a lot easier to deal with close to home, not a 1,000 miles away like I was.

I'm still thinking about rolling a Bronco2. If I remember right they're pretty small, right? Nothing you have inside is very far from you!

I went a lot of places on 265's. Had good power, better fuel mileage blahblahblahblah so fugging boring. Also I will never get good fuel mileage...just isnt goona happen

32's fit, and bigger is better.

Then 33's cuz bigger is better.

Sleeping on top of a drawer system next to 2 105's is where I settled with no plans to change. Perfect rig for a solo hunter

They fit like a glove. Lucky for me my dad was looking for a wood project at the time. Lemme know if you wanna see anything else and I can take more photos
