Growing up in upstate rural NY it is quite common for folks to have hunting camps where different family generations and friends gather to hunt, tell stories, etc.

Is this a “thing” in other parts of the country?

I know it happens in other parts of the country, but the whole hunting camp culture is very much a New England / Northeast thing.

My family had one in a tiny town called Bovina outside of Margretville NY in the Catskill Mountains.

Where I live and with and least with my family and friends it’s more common to stop and talk at the end of the day at the shop or around the arena when before everyone goes home from the farm, or when we’re done roping. Some of my friends will stop by my house to talk for a while some nights too.

A lot of my family don’t hunt because they’re too busy with their farms or work but I bet it must be fun to share a hunting camp with a bunch of family and friends. The closest thing I get to that is the Christmas party my grandparents do every year. Sure would be a cool experience to have multiple generations out in the woods hunting together though.

My hunting camp in the Allegheny National Forest of Northwest PA is the one of the greatest investments i've ever made. its only been 10 years of ownership, but sharing it with family and friends we have made some great memories with very successful hunts over that short period.

It’s pretty common in Utah during the general OTC Elk hunt. You’ll see camps with 25 trailers and RV’s parked for the two weeks. Half the people who have tags will never walk more than 50 yards from the trailer the whole time. Whole extended families go for the same spot n the NF year after year. I’m sure this model is different than what you are talking about in the NE.

South central Pa. Was our family farm but the farmhouse was sold awhile ago. Now we have a cabin on the property. Usually not the most productive hunt but it’s only time most of my family is able to get together

I drove 4 hours (221 miles) each way this weekend because I needed a hunt camp "fix". Cabin is in Bath County VA.

Stayed up until 2:30 this morning having a cigar and drinking bourbon with my buddies. Weather was perfect.

Our family in north Idaho for the 70s -2000s had a very large elk camp…..sadly some have passed others are too old and the younger crowd never got into it much I’m just about the lone survivor …at the height we had 10 hunters and close to 15-20 in camp at times……more packing than I want to remember 🤣🤙

I think it’s pretty normal just different across the country, when I think of a camp on the east coast it’s usually private property with a cabin. When I think of annual hunt camps in the west it’s going to a certain area with a group and camping on public land where you’ll hunt.

I think it is common or was everywhere. Here in MN it is I know in WI it is...maybe not as much in the Dakotas but I know many of those residents come here to hunt deer and have "camps". Some have been going since the early 1900s.

In MT I got to know a couple camps of guys that had been camping in the same spot for 30+ years.

Most everyone who lives here in Central VT either has a camp of their own or goes to a camp at some point during deer season. Northern VT, NH or ME typically. Probably higher deer concentrations where they live but head to camp for the atmosphere, traditions and comradery.
