My dad drew and interstate bull hunt in 091. I had a question on Utah regulations requiring hunters orange. Is it just the tag/ rifle holder that needs orange or is every member of the hunting party required to wear it. Thanks I figured its faster to post it here then trying to look the Utah regulation book on my phone.

As a resident it has never been clear to me. I don't hunt rifle seasons often, so I don't pay too much attention. Here is what they put out in publication. I would suggest a call into the Division of Wildlife Resources.

From Utah's Big Game Field Regulations

Requirement to wear hunter orange

Utah Code §§ 23-20-31 and 23-20-31

If you’re hunting in an area where a centerfire rifle hunt is occurring, you must wear a minimum of 400 square inches of hunter orange material on your head, chest and back. A camouflage pattern in hunter orange meets this requirement; however, the Division strongly encourages hunters to continue using solid hunter orange whenever possible. There are some exceptions to the hunter orange rule. You’re not required to wear hunter orange if you’re participating in a bighorn sheep hunt, a bison hunt, a moose hunt or a mountain goat hunt—or a hunt that requires you to possess a statewide conservation permit or a statewide sportsman’s permit—unless a centerfire rifle hunt is in progress in the same area.

I guess it depending what the state defines hunting as. Technically I will just be hiking spotting meat hauling, more than likely we will be on the nevada side. Thanks muleman

Welcome to Utah dwr regulations. And yes it's very vague. Wish they would just toss the Orange thing. Altogether. Seems it isn't an issue in other states meaning I dont see thousands of people being mistakenly shot because they were perceived as a bipedal mule deer. I think drinkers of adult sodas while hunting are far more detrimental to other hunters than hunters not wearing orange.

I have gone on hunts with others and not worn orange. Been just fine. So is that the pilot mtns tag? Should be a good hunt and you're right on being in Nevada mostly.
