Right now I shot a pro defiant 34 and like it. I came across a good deal on a helix ultra. Looking for guys that have shot both and your opinions

I had both at one point about a year ago. Not much of an upgrade of you ask me. I know a lot of people weren't crazy about the DFX cams but I thought the #3 cams were great. The helix ultra is a good bow as well, I just didn't see a need to keep both and ended up selling the Helix Ultra. If you're shooting the Defiant accurately then keep it.

On the other hand if you're anything like me, you will buy it and just have multiple bows. I have four currently, but I have a "problem".

#2 cam on the Defiant were basically a “recall” item introduced then after as 2.1 cams.

The riser Rox on the carbon defiant. All around the Helix blows it out of the water. Helix is much more updated, especially with yoke stringings.

I find the helix a lot easier to tune. Other than that pretty even performance wise, rest is personal preference.

I think any Hoyt after the Defiant was an upgrade. The DFX cam is probably the most garbage thing Hoyt has ever produced.

The Helix Ultra is an upgrade from the Defiant in my opinion. The Defiant that I owned was very finiky with tuning and arrow spine. The Helix is a much friendlier draw and holds better at full draw. I also prefer the grip on the Helix over the Defiant. As someone else mentioned, the #2 cam Defiants had a major problem with getting rid of a nock high arrow flight problem. Hoyt recalled the cams and replaced with a #2.1 cam.

To the best of my knowledge (and please correct me if I'm wrong), Hoyt didn't "recall" anything...they just reworked the cam the subsequent year as 2.1 and anyone who who had the 2.0 cam was stuck with them. If I understand correctly that is pretty lame...

I still say the Z5 had all Hoyt needed. However, Hoyt changed angle of limbs to past parallal which would not permit the Z5 to fully rotate. Hence why Hoyt had to reconfigure cams that would rotate fully on the new limb angles.

Z5 cam Hoyt’s performance wise do anything any other Hoyt cam can do except the Turbo cam. My Z5 Carbon Spyder Turbo is a 6 inch brace 340 IBO bow from 2014. 6 years and nothing moved except the limb angle did cut down vibration.

Was not a technical recall, but was a reissue. So you’d get a free upgrade, if you were an original owner. But, you’d be responsible for any other costs.

I call it a “basic recall”,,, meaning Hoyt SAW their brain fart and moved to adjust it.

That is good to know! Thanks for clearing that up for me.

No matter how you slice it up it was a brain fart. The technicality of a recall didn’t happen because it wasn’t a injury issue. It was a nock tune issue. No need to do a recall because the bow shot fine, just didn’t paper tune. Consumer groups couldn’t push recall unless safety was a concern.

So Hoyt did a reissue modification of the cam. No consumer group pressure, so Hoyt wasn’t picking up any costs for the labor like a recall would do.

I also shoot a Defiant, works pretty well for me but recently the limb splintered. If there is any info on Hoyt increasing their durability and resolving the notorious limb splintering of the Defiants I would be pretty interested in changing to the Helix.
Bows can get pretty beat up in the field, so any durability info on the helix would be great to know
