Howa carbon barreled action

Just used code TA10 for another 10% off on a 6.5prc since the wife stole my 6.5 manbun and my kiddo took the 308. $687 shipped. That’s 42% off the original $1200. Gonna drop it in a stockys carbon fiber and see what happens.

I think the stockys vg2 is the route I’m going too

Those Howa actions aren't the lightest but they are pretty reliable and accurate. I'd guess a few ounces more than 2# for the action and that carbon barrel at 24" with that contour should be about 2 lbs. 8 oz. So I would expect around 4 lbs. 10-12 oz. for the barreled action on the carbon one.

Pretty close guess- 24" 308 came in at 4 pounds 14 ounces on my highly sophisticated amazon kitchen scale.

I got one a few months back. Chamber was pretty rough and slightly undersized. Had a few hard bolt lifts so checked with go/no go gauges and it won't close on the go guage. Spoke with Howa and they are a long ways out on service and repairs so I'll just fix it myself. Carbon fit and finish is pretty low quality compared to the nice barrels out there but if it shoots I'm not gonna sweat that. Hact trigger is decent for a factory trigger but too heavy. You can get a spring kit to bring the weight down.

Stockys vg2 stock pairs nicely with them.

Yes the 6.5 prc is in a long action.

Ordered my VG2 yesterday. I called stockys first to see how long the back order would be. They said 8 weeks max. And I asked them what inlet for a #6 contour barrel and they said go with the m24/proof sendero for all you guys interested. I handled this action/barrel yesterday at sportsman’s warehouse (howa carbon rifle) but it’s in the HS precision stock. I thought it was damn sweet. Price tag on it was $1900. I thought I’d hate the 2 stage trigger but I liked it. I’ll pick up a 1.5 or 2lb spring from gunbloke for $20. But I didn’t find it too heavy from factory.

This would lead me to believe OMR was involved in making the barrel!! I had all of these issues with one of his barrels. Never again.

Yea not the case with the Howa like I posted before, their own barrel. But my OMR 280ai will shoot 1/4 MOA all day with factory ammo. Sorry you have a boner with him but he treated me well building a rifle on a 700 action 3yrs ago. Hope this Howa is 1/2 as good.

I was interested in this post because it mentioned a VG2 stock and a Howa. I just did some work on a VG2 stock tonight to get rid of the very hollow sound and was wondering if anyone had posted about that already. I was thinking about posting my fix to maybe contribute to the forum and help someone else out that may also have been annoyed by the extreme hollow sound. Yes, I am fairly new but definitely not a scammer. I’m also not the only person that has had issues with OMR.
