I’ve tried the double bag and it’s a no go for me. I think it smashes the insulation on the inner bag and ends up being colder. I was better off putting my down bag on top of the second bag.

A down blanket, like a rumpl, used inside the bag, makes thing toasty. Same with wearing puffy, tights, hat etc.. Have fun!

All the above works, but for me what works best is to add a down or synth quilt inside the bag to take up any dead air spaces, add a closed cell foam sleeping pad.

Same - I pull in my poncho liner and wrap it around me.

As others have said, the puffy is huge for staying warm. The 20 degree mummy bag is all that I use and I will just sleep with heavy merino bottoms and a puffy.

Some good advice on here also about the stove. I try to get a good coal base going and then throw on bigger logs with the dampener down. I will also set vibrate alarms every 1.5-2 hours to throw another log in. It kind of sucks but I'm awake for a minute and it beats freezing.

I use a 30deg bag with the below linked 50deg quilt. Total weight is sub 2.25lbs and gives me the option to flex between cold and warmer climates (real time) with minimal penalty in weight or cost.

I’ve slept down to 15deg no problem with a good pad. Sometimes I use the reactor liner as well. I’m fairly confident I can get down closer to 0 with all those and only be a bit over 2.5lbs.

I used my old KUIU super down 15* bag which is very snug fit inside a larger 15* Mountain Hardware synthetic bag on a polar bear hunt in February. Also wore some head, top and bottom layers. Stayed toasty warm and didn’t have to buy a new sleeping bag I’d never use again. Huge loft and effective system.

Sleeping pad was a foamy.
