I'm new to archery and was wondering how everyone calculates their arrow weight, I hear people talk about it and everyone seems to know theirs but have no idea where to start?

GT Calc

You do need to know some weights for input, but this will calculate your total arrow weight. Or as Justin said, buy a digital scale and throw it on there

If you don't have a scale you can just figure it with specs and get pretty close. The specs are all available online.

Measure the arrow and then based on the grains per inch you have shaft weight. Add the spec weight of the insert, the nock, vanes and whatever grain tip you are using. Should get you within 5grains or so this way.

I'd just buy a grain scale. I have a little Hornady reloading scale that cost about $25.

Thanks I didn't even think about my reloading scale, looks like they weigh 393, is that about average?

I'd say that is close to average. I prefer a little heavier arrow, mine weigh 505 grains.

I think over the winter I'm going to build some arrows with brass inserts which will up my weight to about 540 grains and also up my FOC.

I got a digital arrow scale on Amazon for like $21. Actually good quality and works great.

This is old, but I'm new.... lol
Bow speed 320
arrow weight - 396 gr
K energy - 90 ft lbs
Foc - 13.87%

Thinking of changing to a Black Eagle to get 11.0 gr per inch and up my KE to 100
That also lowers my FOC I believe.
