How tight should a base layer fit?

So I received some new gear from SKRE. I am wondering how tight the 170 merino long sleeve shirt should fit? I ordered both a medium and a large. The medium is tight against the skin and the large is a little bit loose but is more comfortable to wear (feels less restricted) So does merino need to be tight to the skin to insulate properly?

All personal preference on fit and feel

Well loose definitely is comfier, I am just wondering how much the merino will stretch out over time and if it is designed to be tight against the skin to wick moisture properly

Most seem to like wool as a base layer for the moisture wicking properties. My problem with it is that I wouldn't be sweating in the first place if I wasn't wearing it. Lol.

That 170 isn't really a base layer is it? I call that an intermediate layer. I just ordered one of those and Gators and got the large. Base layer to me is about 125 weight or 145, heavier than that is outer or mid layer. Fitted but not tight, doesn't need to be skin tight to work as a wicking layer, just close.

I do agree but it is the lightest clothing that skre has to offer. I also bought the wasatch crew top but it feels thicker and the 170 merino is nicer on the skin. What is everyone else wearing as a base layer? I hiked in +27C with my weighted pack on and it seemed to work well and I did not get to hot or sweat bad

The Wasatch feels heavier than the kaibab? Wasatch is synthetic?

I'll start sweating as soon as I am moving, which is 100% of the time while hunting. So that's a given. So I need something that wicks well and is comfortable. Silk weight poly works, but not as well as merino from my experience. Add the benefit of keeping the smell down and it makes merino the best choice for me. I wear my merino under my camo even when it's close to 100 degrees for hunting. Because at 100 degrees, I'm sweating whether I'm moving or not. And I've got to have that sweat off my skin.........for comfort.

As for fit.........I don't like compression shirts, but for base bottoms..........all of them fit like yoga pants.

I don't hunt when it's 100 degrees, but it does get hot here. I don't sweat during the Fall/winter when I walk at a hunting rate. When it is hot, I don't want any base layer. I like to keep my clothes loose and airy. This works best for me.
Everyone has to figure out what works best for them, even if it's not popular with everyone else.

I wear a lightweight sitka merino core and wear it skin tight. It streches enough for me so its not restrictive. Ive never hunted when it was 100 degrees but i am usually always wearing a baselayer and have up to 80 degrees. I also have the SKRE kanatai hoody and i like it but its for a little cooler weather.
