How often are you getting a new pack?

I bought my last pack in 2017, stone glacier x curve frame with a solo 3300 bag, I did switch to the 7800 bag but I think that was like 5-6 years ago now too.

I've had a Barneys frame for 10 years or so now but never got a bag for it.

I just picked up an early prototype of the k4x. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of people prematurely replacing packs once this thing gets out in the public. I don't know how he made it so much lighter AND stronger. It's pretty incredible. The new material is wild. Steve had samples in his office and told me to try and tear it. It's like 5 or 6 x stronger than cordura!
I'll for sure be upgrading to this for my goat hunt next year. Very excited!

I have been running a SG for about 5 years now and packed out several animals. Its starting to show some wear nothing too bad yet. Wondering how often everyone replaces their packs?
I generally get a new pack every year or maybe 2, and that’s just because I like trying them.

I am not shopping at all currently, since I got the k4, my curiosity of other packs has went away, and I like that. I will probably slow down to only buying new packs when exo releases new packs😉

I have always circled back to exo since their first gen, so I have decided to save some money and just stick with exo

New packs are fun (besides the ones that aren’t) but there are better places to spend extra dough

Can you elaborate on the bag size and configuration? Looking forward to this bag being released.

That might make me retire my K3. It will be like losing a best friend.

Had a kuiu icon pro for a year and quickly realized that was NOT the pack for me. Going on probably 10 years with my current one.

Y’all are gonna laugh. Until about six years ago I carried an aluminum external frame Kelty that was built in the 1970’s. Also wool plaid shirt and wood stocked 30-06 R700 built in 63.

I have since left the Stone Age and now carry a MR Metcalf. Sitka optifade and stainless Tikka in 7-08.

Knowing my habits I’ll most likely still have the current set-up when other people have moved on to self levitating packs, antigravity boots, and thermal ray guns.

Been rocking the duplex lite and tactical for 7-8 years. Added a seek outside peregrine 3500 3 years ago.

The lite frame shoulder straps are getting “broke in” pretty good. Probably got 30 animals through it so far. I bought another set of shoulder straps earlier this year that I’ll change out after December. Other than that, these three will last a lifetime.

Started with an Alaskan Guide Frame Pack from Cabelas in the late 90's, used that for 5ish years, then switched to Eberlestock Dragonfly, used that until around 2013, then used a Kuiu off and on for a few years, then around 2017 I bought a Kifaru Duplex Light and have used that up to present time.

I check out the new packs every year at the Expo But haven't been super stoked on the newer stuff except the Exo K4. If you find a pack that works for you and your style of hunting I say use it until something that works/fits better comes along.

All gear purchases are justified ex-post facto. We all buy gear with some knowledge of the compromises and then justify those compromises after some time in the field.

I originally bought a SG evo 40/56 with the intention of using it for every species in Alaska. I put a few good years of hunting sheep, goat, and bears on it. During those years I never went on grizzly, moose, bison, or caribou hunt, nor did i feel the urge to.

I side-graded (not upgraded) to a SG terminus 7000 this fall, and sold my EVO 40/56 to a friend that I hunt with. If it weren't for trying to help a friend out, I probably would still be rocking the EVO pack for years.

Friends of mine have different bags like Kuiu, exo, and barneys bags. I've had the chance to carry all of them for at least some short period and don't think anything out there is a big enough upgrade in all categories to justify spending the money on a completely new pack system.
