How much velvet preservative?

Any body know how long the mulies in Idaho generally hold their velvet? I'm headed up there for the first week of archery and had a guy tell me yesterday that most the bucks would be rubbed by the first week in Sept.

Yes, they will be rubbing by the first week.

THey normally still have velvet by sept 5-7 in CO from my experience. I killed a whitetail on 09/5 in Idaho that had just rubbed that day tho.

I did a velvet deer euro mount by cuting off the antelers and freeze drying them than mounting them to a fake skull kit. Looks great.

I suppose one could also do this and boil the real skull then reattach and fill the gap/paint.

I'm hunting CO Sept. 6-14 for muleys. Should I buy some preservative or would I be wasting money?
