How many years to draw first sheep tag?

I was pretty confident that I was going to draw a sheep tag in Montana in the early 2000s as I had drawn a goat tag in 1997 (the first or second year I put in) and a moose tag in 1999. Alas, I’m still waiting.

It's a fact that not everyone will draw a sheep tag, I just hope I'm 1 of the lucky ones that do. Last year my buddy drew a tag he said it was 44 years of applying we had a great time and he was able to get a nice ram, I hope I don't have to wait that long.

Have a couple friends that live in British Columbia and hunt OTC sheep every year. I would be lying if I didn't say I want to punch them every time we talk about it. Being able to hunt 3 of 4 slam sheep OTC is almost enough to make a guy want to become a BC resident.

I am only a couple years into the draws and nothing for me yet.

Note much to complain about for me though, I won from Epic Outdoors.... December 1st it all goes down.

First year my buddy and I ever put in we drew DS203 Delta Controlled Use Area for walk in Dall Sheep. That was 2006. Got 2 First Rams. 15 years later, 2021 after putting in every year I drew it again and shot what I'm calling my Last Ram.

6 years for CO archery. Got a nice 8 year old ram. Odds are quite long. If I want another will just buy a dall hunt or two. Not sure I really have the itch for another. Thinking grizzly would be of interest though.

0/8 so far in Alaska. Odds are very low for tags I put in for in that amount of time and not mad about it, but it does get old watching the same guys draw year after year. I get over it real quick though. I truly never expect to draw a sheep tag in my lifetime. Just gonna go hunt. Decided about 5 years ago to stop chasing points in L48 and invested the $ to just go hunt, mostly invested into crypto. That is proving to have been a very good choice.
Why not just go hunt on a HT? No need to draw anything to hunt sheep in AK.

For what people waste in draws and points you could buy an airplane and have access to anything you want.

Colorado here. I drew mountain goat after 7 years in 2012, I drew a ram tag this year after 16 years. It was the hunt of a lifetime and worth the wait. Now I'll try to get a desert bighorn tag for 5 years while I sit in the penalty box. At 45 years old I doubt I'll ever draw a rocky mountain bighorn tag again. Hopefully I can draw moose at some point, but I feel thankful that I've been able to draw what I have.

I love hunting sheep and have hunted them successfully on HT. Have done fly in, walk in, and ATV trips for access. The thread asked specifically about drawing a tag not if we've ever had a tag. There are a couple areas in AK where I would really like to hunt sheep that are draw only. Some lucky people have hunted them several times. Just the luck of the draw. Just because I can't hunt them doesn't mean I stay home.

I am at 15 years in several western states. Nada. If I can sell enough lemonade at the stand to raise cash, I will look at sheep or goat in BC next year

I think it took me about 10 years to draw my first (and only), DCUA sheep tag, and it took my son about 3 years. That said, I've been unsuccessfully putting in for the TMA sheep tag for over 25 years now, and since AK started allowing 6 tags to be placed on one hunt, I've been putting all my 6 tries on TMA. Fortunately I can still hunt sheep every year if I want without drawing a tag, but those draw tags are usually special for a reason.

Haven't connected on a ram yet, but buy a tag OTC each year. I've seen a couple full curl rams, but not in accessible country. For the permit hunts, I am on year 5 without drawing.

31 years. Got drawn in 2020 for a WA California big horn. After waiting all those years, the unit had a fire three weeks before the opener, the wildlife biologist for central WA never returned a call, even when I tried to get him to plug the horns. He was a total POS, I had to get them plugged in Spokane, which was on my way home.

I was 68 at the time and all my friends that talked of helping, didn't. My wife was my hunt companion the duration of the hunt. Made it even more memorial.

Still will apply for a few more years in other states, but will eventually either get drawn or quit applying in 10 years.

Sorry to hear of the disappointments, but good to know who you can (or cannot) depend on. I have a memory like an elephant when it comes to those kinds of things. I forgive but I don't forget.

Awesome you and your wife were able to conquer and create that priceless memory. Congrats
