I have 3:
1 For Shed Hunting - Kuiu 3600
1 For Hunting/Scouting - Kifaru Duplex Lite 24" w/2 Bags Bedlam and Fulcrum
1 For Training - Eberlestock Dragonfly w/ 60lbs

That pretty much covers all of my pack needs at this point in my Hunting Career.

I downsized recently.

Barney’s Freighter Frame- moose quarters and bear baiting
Kifaru Muskeg 7000 (or whatever size the bigger one is)- do all multi day trips
Kuiu Divide 3000- day trips/airline travel bag
Kuiu Encounter 3000- quieter version of daypack left only for treestand hunting

Edited to add: Kuiu 1200 as my 3 year old daughter was begging for a hunting pack to match daddy at the airport lol

2 for hunting. One 6500 cubic inch setup, one 8000 cubic inch. One frame, switch between packs depending on trip.

I’ve also got a small edc bag, but I don’t really count that. And and two osprey kid hauling packs.

What meaningful benefit does anyone get from having so many packs laying around. I can’t imagine anyone actually using more than a few and if you do use more it seems like a good way to misplace gear for extended periods of time.
Seems like hoarding to me

Hunting a wide veriety of situations, if im hunting a half dozen different type trips i will pre pack the different packs for each specific trip...alot of times things overlap as far as gear and you can always get by with less but its a good way to stay organized

I even have a pack just for running cameras 😅

For western big game I have one. Well, if you count one I’ve kept for my wife thats two. Another that’s more of a day pack… Many others for any variety of tasks.

@Dioni A I guess some of it may be hoarding, but then again I COULD in theory do everything with 1 rifle. Touche? 😁
Nope. I think it’s equally as dumb to have a bunch of different rifles that seldom or never get used. Although there is a reasonable argument that rifles are not a soft good that depreciates in value like a backpack does.

I am going to officially go with several...I have several packs...let's keep it nebulous...

But seriously, with a wife and 3 kids that I have brought into the hunting/outdoor game, we have over 20 and at least 4 of them are not mine. ;)

I’m a believer that it’s never wasted energy to help kids get into outdoor sports. Loaner equipment has paid for itself many times over simply because many times it’s been the difference between young people making a trip happen or not. Same for always having a loaner rifle that can be borrowed at a moments notice.

I think we need to define this better
I have-
One work pack
One travel pack
2 frame packs w/ multiple bag sizes (day and multiday)

So is that 2 packs or 4? Or 6 when including bags?

Amen, I have a rifle that 11 different kids have taken their first animal with, my backup frame gets loaned out every year

Ok fair nuff. Is it hoarding if they are all dramatically different packs, serving different functional needs of different activities and uses, and all get used fairly regularly? Cuz if not I’m going to have to ask several folks to pick just one magnified optic to own for everything. And one pair of shoes for everything from work, to the beach, to hiking, to ice fishing.

Lol nobody is asking you to ditch your stuff...if dioni wants to call in whitetails with a 8k cubic inch weather proof pack cuz he thinks different packs are dumb then so be it...more critters for us 🤣

I agree with an elk angle that my opinion matters very little to what other people do. I was just pointing out how I think having 9+ hunting packs doesn’t make much sense. If you have a bunch of different packs and they all have their own use and it makes you happy inside go for it. I just think guys that are primarily focused on killing stuff. Don’t waste that much energy or resources on Things like that.

- REI flash 17l for day hikes, inbound skiing
- Deuter 30l for day hikes with kids (ie I carry extras of everything and more food etc)
- old school Deuter kid carrying backpack
- BCA 32l for ski touring
- exo K4 with 5500 bag for all hunting and backpacking
- I still own an old osprey 88l I used for backpacking before hunting but not sure what to do with it. It's quite a bit lighter than the exo and a bit bigger but I'd rather carry weight in the exo and by the time I fill up 88l it's going to be heavy ..

I haven't seen the need to get a smaller hunting backpack-- the exo compresses nicely and I like being able to carry an entire deer out in one go even from nasty deep woods.

Next up on the "to buy" list is either an overnight capable ski touring pack or I need to come up with a way to rejig the exo for that .. anyone know of a ski carrying strap that works with exo ? :D

Oh, only 2-3 of my packs are hunting specific. The rest are either offseason hiking like a hip pack and a very light daypack, or they’re specific to backcountry skiing or ice climbing with a totally different feature set and priorities than my hunting packs. I do 95% of my actual hunting out of 2 packs.

I dunno about a quiver of hunting packs but for me it's:

Seek outside 4800
50 liter ski pack for hut trips and overnights
30 liter ski & snowmobile pack this is my day to day but is black, doesn't have any padding on the back and melts my trail mix in the summer
30 liter ski avalanche airbag pack (Heavy!)
20 liter sil nylon for mellow day hikes

And then an assortment of random speciality sling packs and fanny packs for fishing, skate skiing and mountain biking.

I could downsize a bit but backcountry skiing with a big floppy pack sucks and I wouldn't even consider trying to get by using my SO pack as a daily ski pack If I just hunted and day hiked then I could see getting by with the SO and 20l pack but a diversity of activities requires a diversity of packs in my case.
