How many days are people getting out of SG solo pack.

Looking at either buying the solo or the sky 5900. I'm pretty mindful of what I take and do not pack a lot of extra things. All my trips are under 6 days and wondering if the solo will have enough room to for that? The reason I want the smaller bag is because I do a ton of 3 day hunts on the weekends and only 2- week long ones a year.

Thanks for any input!

It really depends on what you pack, I used my solo for some 3-4 day trips but I really had to compress things down well and go with a really light shelter. I ended up moving up the the 40/56 just to get a bit more space and I can very comfortably do 5-6 days with that pack.

The 5900 packs down to nothing. I’ve owned both, but only own the 5900 now. The way these SG Packs go into “daypack” mode, there’s really no reason to not go bigger. When the 5900 came out, it made the Solo obsolete for me. I now have a 5900 and 6900 that cover all my needs.

I’ve done up to 6 days with a Solo. Food space gets challenging but it works if you are disciplined with your packing. Also helps to add the lid.

I’ve also done overnights with a 7200. Actually just did a 32 mile overnight hike last weekend with that one. It’s really no issue to use the larger bag. I just take the lid off and fold the top down. I could have used the Solo on that one, but it wasn’t worth the effort of taking the big one off the frame.

Not a ton of experience with either, but I bypassed the solo and went right to the 5900 for a few reasons.. Its 4300" in bivy mode, which isnt that much bigger than the 3600" of the solo, its got the water bottle pockets as well as the vertical pocket on the outside, its got the top load and horseshoe zipper, and extends up to 5400" if you need (without the lid).

This. I have the 3300, 5900, and 6900. There is really no reason to go below the 5900 the way it packs down. I haven’t used my 3300 since I got the 5900, will get around to selling it eventually.

Ive gotten 7 days out of my 3300. Packing the food on the load shelf and everything else in the main bag worked pretty good. If i added a couple pockets i could get more. If i pack the tent on the bottom compression straps i can get a little more room.

Is everyone else using the load shelf to haul food? or are you getting the 6 days putting everything in the main bag?

I would like to have a Solo for my 2-3 day trips, but I'll sacrifice a couple of ounces to have one bag for everything. I love my 5900. Maybe someday I'll have a Solo too, but I'll be keeping the 5900.

My buddy has done 7-10 days out of his 3300 fly fishing in Wind Rivers. It gets tight but since he added a lid, he has no issues and doesn’t use the load shelf.
