How is inflation affecting you?

Prices of everything across the board is up. Gas will continue to rise ( currently $3.59 where I'm at) and I'm sure everything else will as well. How are all these inflated prices affecting your day to day life? For me, the biggest hit I am going to take is at the gas pump. I live well within my means but I cant imagine how this is all affecting the lower middle class. I was lucky to get a cost of living raise at work but I know not everyone was given this gift. For people living on the edge I feel like this environment may be too much....

Haven’t really felt it at this point. I am sure it is impacting some.

As of right now probably just start working from home more. Since I have the option I should anyways and save 50+ miles on my truck and of course save on fuel costs. Other than that...like you we live within our means. Also can't really say it effects me until I can't afford the $2500+ in tag/license fees I'll pay this year.

FJB anyways

Not a lot of impact yet, but as a retired person, I can easily cut back and drive less. I feel for the younger workers who aren't making much money and now have to deal with the huge energy price increases.

As noted by others and myself, not everything is about me. ;). Sometimes, you have to recognize how bad the policies are for the rest of the people in the US.

Well, my wife and I have been trying to buy a house for about a year at this point. That is getting really difficult.

Gas pump is getting rough and will probably start biking to work as soon as it gets warm enough.

Pickup is starting to have issues and its time to send it down the road to someone else but have you seen the cost of vehicles?

Its a real ass kicker for those that are trying to get started.

Thankfully I saw most of this coming, I built a new house over the last 2 years that is completely off grid without a mortgage. I bought a car that gets 40mpg, I only have to commute to work 2 out of every 6 days “50 mile round trip.” I live well within my means but I’m still feeling it, luckily most everywhere I feel it is on things I can cut out “hobbies” gas for toys etc. I just went and filled up the truck and wheeler for a ice fishing tournament this weekend and it was a 178$ bill.

I'm watching that with my middle daughter. She and her boyfriend have pretty decent paying jobs for 20 year old kids. He is a machinist apprentice and she is a 2nd year electrician apprentice. They are wanting to get married and buy a house, but they don't stand a chance with the out of state money coming in to Southern Idaho. I've been in the market for a new truck, but can't get myself to pay these kinds of prices.

Looking at houses is depressing at this point, I seem to always be in the market at the wrong time, after owning a home for 20ish years we have been renting for a few, problem is rent is atrocious as well.

Wife got a new ride last year, she was due, I will keep milking mine along, just dropper $800 on it and need brakes, will be doing the brakes my self to save some coin, but I hate working on cars in the driveway!

We travel a lot during the spring, summer, and fall. We are now reevaluating our travel plans. And as a side note I can hardly wait to get to Montana because I know that my fuel cost are going to go down. Our King here in Washington wants to price us out of driving. I was going to Oregon to buy fuel, but they have raised their price to the local prices. Idaho prices are still reasonable compared to Washington./

My wife and I do pretty well ourselves. The problem is we came into that right as the market took off. We havent put an offer in on a house that has had less than 15 other offers. Our real estate agent called the listing agent and asked what the offer that was accepted looked like on one. The guy put "sellers pay for appraisal, buyer pays 10 grand over, all cash."

I have been milking my pickup along for about 2 years now and was planning on ditching it last year, its ran ok for the last year but back to chasing problems. Its coming down to how much money do you sink into a 20 year old pickup?

Well building a house is becoming very expensive in our area. We could have bought a house on the river when we moved here for the price a 2500 sq ft home is going for these days.

The housing is crazy. I feel for you younger folks trying to get established. It seems like I have been saying "it's gotta come down at some point" for about 8 years. The real estate market keeps saying "hold my beer"!

The price of groceries is where I feel it the most. We were also hoping to upgrade my car this year as it's 11 years old and my family is quickly outgrowing it, but the auto market is too insane right now. Hoping it cools off soon, but I worry the prices won't go down when inventory becomes available again.

In March of 2020 right when the lockdowns started I bought a 05 Prius for $2500. My 2020 Tacoma stays in the garage unless I need a truck. That keeps my fuel bill down, and keeps miles off the truck. The Prius is only about $30 per week for fuel.

Boneless skinless Chicken breast and thighs seem to go on sale for $1.99 per pound fairly often. Tri tip or chuck steak goes on sale for around 4.99 per pound every month or two. Salmon is on sale for around $8 per pound. When these items go on sale I buy large amounts, and then vacuum seal in bags for one or two meals. We eat a lot of meat, veggies, and brown rice for lunches or dinners. We also do a lot of chicken salads for lunch. Breakfast is bulk oatmeal a lot of times.

This is kind of how I have always groceries shopped, but I buy more than I used to now when the sales hit. This has kept my groceries bills down a lot. The chicken and beef is usually double the cost when not on sale.

A lot of the other stuff I normally cook like chilli, stew, or spaghetti makes 10-12 individual meals. I use deer, elk or bear meat. The increase in cost on the other ingredients has really been that much.

The biggest sticker shock is when I go out to eat, or just getting stuff at the grocery store when not on sale.

With some planning it has been easy to keep food cost down. Buy in bulk when on sale, make large meals and eat leftovers for lunch dinner after words. I also vacuum seal leftovers in individual portions and freeze. Those are easy lunches or dinners down the road. Lots of my meals end up being $1-$3 per serving, and I’m eating good!
